"It's alright. Those bandits are gone. Are you hurt? Man Chai and I can help." He swallowed nervously. A large shadow moved just under the surface of the water, barely illuminated by the faint reddish glow his suanni companion let off.
Slowly, the creature swam closer. Gaming held his breath as he took another step toward the edge and lowered himself to the cool, wet rocks. His entire body was hot with anticipation and adrenaline. So many things could go wrong in a split second. That didn't stop him from leaning over the pool.
The water sloshed gently as a face came into view, followed by bony shoulders.
"You're not a suanni," Gaming breathed.
The creature, so human in appearance with pale skin dotted with tan freckles and soft blue eyes, shook his head. Droplets of water dripped from his blond hair, splashing Gaming. He looked nervous, his eyes wide with fear and lips wobbling.
Gaming saves a mer from bandits and instantly falls in love.
