Fumi nodded, so Hawks put his fingers around the claps that kept the ban firmly attached to the little kid’s wrist.
His heart skipped a beat. The metal was cold.
He could feel it even through his thick gloves, it was as if it was soaking up the warmth of everything it touched, like it needed the proof of life of other living things to be able to function, like the thing it was containing was demanding pure raw energy; souls, warmth, blood, Hawks wasn't sure, but he didn't trust it, not one bit.
There was no sound. It was utterly and unnaturally quiet.
He opened the clasp.
A beat. And then another.
And then. It was roaring .
Or: In a word where slaves are the norm and guards patrol the streets, Hawks just wants to have a peaceful life with his kids. Even if that’s a tad difficult when you are not legally considered human.

The young man was swaying gently on his socked feet, clothed in a too large sweater, while his face was partially covered with the white hair of the kid in pajamas on his arms. He kissed the crown of her head and then continued with his heavenly singing, raising his head a bit to give a dazzling smile to the person behind the camera.
“What’s the phone for, Tou?” He asked, stopping the beautiful melody.
“Just proving a point,” the clear voice of Dabi came through the device. At the same time, the man curved a bushy eyebrow at him, looking fondly at the camera.
Before he could ask for Dabi to clarify, the kid steered awake. “Dad?”
“Sorry Eri,” the man kissed her head one more time, “Tou was just bein' silly.”

“Dad!” Eri exclaims, from her perch on the counter. She’s holding a Hawks mug in both hands—a mug the man himself gifted to Shouta, and which Shouta promptly shoved into the back of a cupboard despite swearing he would throw it out—and has flour smeared on her face. Hawks is standing near her, leaning against the counter, while Tensei is seated in his wheelchair at the table, mixing something in another mug, this one with the name of Hizashi’s radio show printed on it in bright lettering.

Keigo, #2 Pro-Hero Hawks, spy for the HPSC, was not supposed to die. Someone was supposed to swoop in and save him. Maybe he was just supposed to be stronger. Either way, he died and the world moved on. Dabi moved on. After everything is done and his father is ruined, time marches forward without Keigo Takami.
Or does it? How does reality shape itself in the absence of a person? How does it look when there is a hole the size of a man in the fabric of Dabi's life?
