Actually so sad I finished this fic. Reading this fic reminded me of Angel's Wild which I read 2 years ago - simpler times let me tell you. Just the process of watching a show, reading a long fic in my off time, and having a single artist on repeat because the songs fit the fic just so damn well.
It's just a precious thing to find something that gives you the same happy feelings even if years apart.
You know the fic is good when I start reading it during the day. Night time is fic time and only absolute gold sees the light of day.
But enough of that. On with the show.
I was absolutely hooked as soon as Jim bit Spock. (I may be dumb but I'm pretty sure Jim never apologised for that.) Plus the description of their crash and also Jim making a splint and walking on his damn broken leg 💀 🙏. Actually couldn't put the fic down. I'd be watching actual Star Trek and be thinking about stopping and reading this instead 😭😭. (Actually evil I finish TOS and this fic in the same bloody day 😭.)
Around the start I had wished that Pike would live because idk I guess I felt bad 😭 but turns out I was simply just missing Spock and Kirk having a third member of their little group and as soon as Bones showed up I was instantly happy 😍. We love the 'I'll hurt you more if you don't get any better' doctor ❤❤. Who knew malpractice is a viable option if your patients are better at the end of the day and can't argue with the results 😊 (came back and realised this is just House). But no really I didn't realise how much I missed his character until he was gone 💀.
Also thank goodness Jim is in a golden shirt now. One more day in the red and he probably would have gotten infected by an alien parasite that was naked to the human eye or something 💀🙏. I swear those shirts are red to symbolise the cloth they wave infront of bulls.
I always reach this point where I wanna write more and its also 5am and I can't think of anything else 🥀.
I'm glad this will be the first TOS fic in my Star Trek collection. Always nice to have the first one be something I would 100% look for again. Might actually download this onto my kindle. Yet another fic that I would cry about if I lost.
Song was, 'The Past is a Grotesque Animal' by Of Montreal, btw. It fits so well and its so good but I have NOBODY to share this with and it's eating away at me 😭 Like CMON?? "How do you keep it together? I'm all, all unraveled." I'm actually going to scream and this isn't even the only line I'm screaming about 💀 ('chap pilot' was also on repeat but it wasn't like a one to one deal.)
Really glad I read this fic. It was wonderfully written and now remains in my mind completely rent free and will forever return when I listen to a certain song.
And isn't that just neat. 🖖
