Summary
A year after graduation, Will Byers is living in Juniper Wells, a bustling town about 30 miles off Los Angeles. He makes a living from working at a local queer bar and being a freelancer artist. He has had a few romantic partners but is yet to meet the one. Life was coming to a bit of a standstill until Mike Wheeler came to visit. Fic takes place over the week Mike stays in Wills place. As Mike lets Will into his life, slowly unravelling how life has been for him the past year, and Will lets Mike into, well, whatever he has going on, old feelings start to rekindle.

"Carlton," Mike repeated, the word feeling like ash in his mouth.
"Yeah, Carlton," Dustin said, sounding genuinely surprised by Mike's tone. "I figured you’d be the first to know. I mean, you guys talk every night. I only heard it through the grapevine—Max told Lucas, Lucas told me. Even El seemed to know when I called her last. I thought you were probably the one who gave him the pep talk to actually go through with it."
Mike didn’t know. He didn't know anything. He’d talked to Will on Friday. He’d talked to Will today, just before calling Dustin. Will had mentioned the weather, his latest charcoal sketch, and the fact that Max had accidentally bleached one of his favorite sweaters. He had not mentioned a business major named Carlton.
The betrayal tasted like copper. He was the person Will usually told everything to first.
OR Mike Wheeler realizes that playing the "Good Best Friend" is a losing game, Will is tired of waiting for a sign, and the Party proves that they are world-class at covering up a tactical romantic explosion.
Basically: cheating Byler burger with a side of mutual pining fries and enabler friends soda.

At first, Mike was unsure how to approach him when he got like this. But they’ve been living together for months now, never further than five feet apart in their dorm beds, so Mike’s learned what works and what doesn’t.
It works when he wakes Will like this, with gentle hands and words, telling him he’s safe. It works when he climbs into Will’s warm bed, turning him on his side and curling up against his back, an arm over his waist and his cheek pressed against his shoulder. They lie together like that until Will’s hiccupping gasps soften into steady breaths, until Mike feels him go limp in his arms and he knows he’s fallen back asleep. It always works.
or: Will has nightmares and Mike is the only one who can console him. Not even Will's boyfriend can. Mike takes great pride in this fact.

After Mike unwittingly stumbles into a series of interpersonal bombshells, he immediately sets out to find Will so he can find out what, exactly, that painting meant, and why Will lied about it. Unfortunately, Mike is obsessively obstinate and relentless to a fault, and he'll go to the literal ends of the earth to get the answers he needs.
