I pushed myself off of the wall and walked to the nearest medical table. Slowly and deliberately, as though the beat of my central circulatory pumps wasn’t pounding in my ears, I turned around and leaned back onto my hands. The small of my back came to rest against the edge of the platform. When I tilted my head all the way back and found the lens of ART’s camera, my mouth split into a smile that I hadn’t planned.
I said, “You.”

Summary
I was well aware that ART and I had different preferences when it came to media. ART liked shows about ships; if such a thing as a show about SecUnits existed, I was 93% sure I wanted nothing to do with it. ART got scared and stopped watching when it thought humans might get seriously hurt; I was far from opposed to a nice unrealistic comfort drama, but also sometimes watched disaster documentaries to relax. I skimmed and skipped around; ART watched everything, all the way through, in order, usually several times.
But most importantly right now, I always sped up and muted boring scenes of humans having sex, and ART absolutely did not.

The nightmares were back. At least that’s what I decided to call the ghosts that haunted my recharge cycles. Either way, I didn’t like it.
“It’s getting worse since the trauma treatments started,” I complained to ART. “Aren’t those supposed to make you feel better?”ART decides to help Murderbot and enters its mind as it recharges, hoping to transform its nightmares into harmless dreams.

Summary
It’s not that I wasn’t curious, and it’s not like there wasn’t a more logical part of me that knew that this was terrible security procedure, even if I didn’t hear a peep from risk assessment (what else is new?). But on a deeper level, I knew there wasn’t any risk.
I wanted ART to prove it to me.
I wanted to go in blind and know that it wouldn’t hurt me, and that it would stop if I asked it to. I wanted to let ART in and not have to think about it.

That is…a highly questionable way of utilizing university-issued medical technology.
SecUnit slurred, “Fuck the university.”
It pressed its lips on it again.After a night out at Preservation Station goes awry, the humans end up having to babysit a drugged-up Murderbot. Little do they know things are about to get 100% weirder when they pass that responsibility off to ART.
