“It’ll be nice,” Bradley says firmly, like he’s just decided, is speaking it into existence. “Being in San Diego again. Maybe I can finally pull my bike out of storage.”
Nat pauses halfway to drowning the last, lukewarm mouthful of her beer.
“Bike like… motorcycle?” she asks.
“No, Nat,” Bradley says dryly. “A tandem. Yeah, like a motorcycle.”
or; five times someone finds out Bradley rides a motorcycle, and one time someone already knew.

Summary
For Shane Hollander, life has always been about playing a part. On the ice, he plays the best (or second best, depending on who you ask) hockey player in a generation. With his family, he plays the role of golden boy - kind and resilient and responsible. Even with Ilya, Shane has a part to play; reliable, happy, secure.
But after the big move to Ottawa and a summer full of life changes, Shane can't catch his footing. This is supposed to be the start to the best chapter of his life – so why does he feel like he's drowning?

Summary
They lapse back into a comfortable silence. Shane looks at Ilya as he is and thinks about Ilya as he was at seventeen, smoking in the back of a Saskatchewan parking lot. The image is almost unbearably tender for Shane, where his own seventeen year old thrill at seeing Ilya Rozanov meets all the things Shane knows about that lonely boy now.
Shane thinks: Do you love number 81 more than you love this man?
"Hey," Ilya says, brushing his knuckles over Shane's cheek. "Whatever I do, I will be there when you come home."
Ilya decides to retire. Shane is very normal about it.
