“I’m fine,” Ed insists, just like he’s been insisting all this time.
“You don’t have to be,” Stede reminds him in a whisper. “Not with me. Not when you aren’t.” He gives Ed another quick squeeze before his other hand is bringing the bottle up, carefully flushing out the wound with alcohol.
Ed furrows his brow, but it’s really not that bad. The cut is closed enough that the alcohol doesn’t sting terribly.
That doesn’t stop Stede from saying, “You can squeeze my hand as hard as it hurts, don’t you worry about breaking me. I’m made of tough stuff, too,” and making Ed’s heart throb inside his ribs. “Oh, you poor thing. Dealing with this all by yourself. I wish you would’ve told me.”

the power goes out in ops (surprise! it’s cold) and it’s just the main crew there (and julian bc he was in there gossiping) and then quark comes in via a wall panel like “y’all wanna buy some blankets?” (and garak arrives like “wat do u mean nothing works i broke through 15 forcefields and rerouted security protocols no problem, hey julian i’m cold”) and then they build a blanket fort & cuddle for warmth & sing songs around the glowstick campfire. also garak has a tail, for secret reasons.

"What difference does it make to me if I'm a human freak or a monster one?" Eddie shrugs, and Steve butts his shoulder up against Eddie. It's meant to be brotherly, maybe friendly, but it's too soft. Felt like something he might have done before slinging an arm around a girl's shoulders.
"You're not a freak." Steve says, and finds he means it.
Eddie's eyes, when he looks at Steve, are curious. "No?"

When he had learned of Julian’s augmentation in a completely unnecessary, late-night tearful confession from the doctor two years ago, Garak had been mostly troubled that the young man had been convinced that this information would drive Garak to leave him. Having subsequently reassured his young doctor with sweet words and truly outstanding sex, Garak had labelled the information “interesting to think about at a later date” and put it on one of the impeccably organized shelves in his mind.
But Julian had just reminded him that he was able to account for their relationship, literally, in ways that Garak could not. Which he found fascinating.
