Naruto had never been sick before, but he had heard enough of it from his friends that he knew that waking up with an aching throat and coughing meant some sort of cold. The flowers came as a surprise. So did the rapidly growing vines that limited his breathing, ripped open his throat on a daily basis, and would kill him in a few days. “I get it. This is about...You’re still mad about…” Wei Wuxian made a vague gesture to Jiang Cheng’s abdomen, roughly where his golden core would be found. Jiang Cheng’s fists tightened at his side.
“You’re making this into something it’s not! You don’t have to be guilty about this anymore!”
Easier said than done. Jiang Cheng thought to himself, however, “That’s not the point!”
“God, Jiang Cheng!” There was visible frustration on Wei Wuxian’s face now. He couldn’t nonchalantly smile or grin his way out of this. “Why can’t you just accept that I did it to protect you?!”
“Because it makes my sacrifice meaningless! Because it means that I did nothing to protect you!”
Wei Wuxian froze. “...What...what are you talking about?”

Post-Canon, Jiang Cheng gets confused for Wei Wuxian after a night hunt and is taken as hostage by a man obsessed with the Yilling Laozu.

So Jiang Cheng took a deep breath and took his hand off Sandu. “Deal.” He said.
His fellow cultivators immediately protested.
Jin Ling shouted, “What? No deal!”
Jiang Cheng turned to him, angry at his defiance. “Quiet! Do not defy me, or I’ll break your legs!” In a way, his usual empty threat was meant to be a comfort.
But Jin Ling looked at him with despairing eyes, “Jiujiu, no.”
Lan Wangji went to speak.
“Quiet!” Jiang Cheng said to him too. “Don’t be a hero, Hanguang-Jun. Think of the juniors. If this is what saves them, deal!” He took Sandu off his belt and shoved it at Jin Ling, who grabbed it shakily. He then walked up to Lord Shi, chain raised defiantly.
The man’s eyes roamed all over his body with awe and desire. “Wise choice.” He said to him. To his men, “Bind him!”
