When he was awake, he could move about and interact with his visions, and though they could make him feel small and frightened, at least he had the sense that he could get away. Perhaps, so near sleep, his brain thought he was dreaming, because he was always paralysed by them. He was stuck to his chair, even as his eyes flew open, and he saw, in a brief glimpse before his vision fragmented, two faces, eerily green in the light from his eyes.
