Summary
"So should we start blocking off time in our calendar for dance lessons with Coach Diaz?"
Eddie knows Karen means it as a joke, but the combination of the wine in his system and the joy in his gut make it feel serious, "Yes."
"Wait, really?" Hen asks.
"If she wants to dance, I'll teach her to dance. We had fun today," Eddie finishes his glass and notices he's probably at the point where he's drunk enough to talk about the Buck thing.
"You don't have to do that Eddie. I'm sure we could pay for lessons somewhere," Karen offers.
"Or we could pay you," Hen offers.
"I have an idea for that actually," alright, Eddie, be brave, "I give Mara dance lessons and you both give me gay lessons."
or
When Mara becomes obsessed with ballroom dance Eddie becomes her teacher. Along the way he realizes he's in love with Buck, starts receiving "gay lessons" from Hen and Karen, and forms a ragtag dance academy. What could possibly go wrong?

I love absolutely everything about this. Girl-Dad Buddie is always great, but I love the fresh angles the story takes on that, with a foster kid who was clearly meant to be part of their family, and who ended up being so good for all of them, even as they're so good for her.

Maverick really should have known better than to promise to settle things with Rooster after the mission and still expect them all to come through unscathed.Maverick’s second ejection in a month didn’t leave him quite as uninjured as he’d thought it had, and it’s Rooster that has to try to pick up the pieces. Luckily he has a whole aircraft carrier of people to pull him through.

Summary
Eddie roves his eyes over Buck's form. The paleness of his skin, the starkness of his veins under. The way Buck's clothes are starting to hang a little loose on him, the way he never changes where anyone can see him anymore.
Buck just sighs and looks away, breathing measured. It makes Eddie all the more certain that he’s doing the right thing; if Buck really was okay, he would have had the energy to fight back.
It breaks something in Eddie. Almost as quickly as it rose, his anger burns away, leaving behind only pain and fear. He can't lose Buck. He can't.
Buck would do anything to protect Eddie. Even if it means keeping the truth hidden — right to an early grave.

Very sexy and very fun, but also very sweet with Buck so very sure that no one will love all of him exactly as he is and Eddie so very sure that Buck is exactly what he wants, even if that comes with some complications.

“You two are probably the most likely to believe what I’m about to say. I’ll say it once and after that we really don’t have time. We need to get the others. Today is November 14th…”
Hen and Chim cut Buck off with another laugh, like any of this was funny.
“Thank you, Captain obvious.” Chimney chuckled nervously, knowing that something was definitely different by the way Buck was carrying himself.
“Today, is November 14th, 2029. You’ve been gone for five years and apparently now you and everyone else that blipped is back. Get in the car.”
OR
The blip happens, everyone but Buck and Bobby disappear, and Buck ends up with all the 118 children.

There are a couple of stories that monkey around with the idea of the five-year blip from the Avengers and how it would impact the 9-1-1 crew, but this one is definitely my favorite. I love the idea of Buck ending up with all of the firefam's kids--so sweet!

He watched Mrs. Byers meet the young girl's eyes over her son's shoulders and he was suddenly hit with a crystal clear image in his mind.
Hopper. Standing with his back to the gate. Smiling softly, resigned. But filled with so much love.
Joyce. Watching, stretched impossibly thin. Understanding with a sense of grief, too terrible to name.
She turns the keys.
"Steve?" Jonathan is half out of the ambulance, using all of his weakened strength to keep Steve upright. "What's wrong?"
"Hopper. It's Hopper. He's gone." Steve doesn't know how he knows it, but he does.

Most likely discontinued, which is a shame--but it's still got some of the best characterization in the fandom, and I do so love a Steve with powers. Plus, it's not the easiest to find, so I'm mostly bookmarking this to save myself future headaches trying to track it down every time I get an itch to reread it.

Here's what Evan believes: if someone can do something that other people can't, if they offer some unique and special service to the world, they should do that. They have an obligation to use whatever skills they have, ideally to help people. It's just the right thing to do.
And the one thing that Evan can do that almost no one else can is see ghosts.

I've loved Chash's writings for years now--used to devour every SPN RPF story--and it was such a treat to come into the 9-1-1 fandom and find Chash here, too. The fic that recasts 9-1-1 into The Good Place is phenomenal, but I think this one is my favorite. There's such sweetness to the way the team comes together, and Buck/Eddieness of it all. It's lovely all the way through--not to mention fun and interesting and thoughtful.

Summary
The itching under his skin hummed in a slightly off tune. When Buck was outside the Diaz door, he could physically feel Eddie’s happiness, without seeing him. Here, on the porch, he could feel that Eddie’s happiness was at about… 78%. High, honestly. Through the closed door, he could hear music playing softly and Chris yelling at a video game in his room.
When he opened the door and stepped in, he headed toward the kitchen where Eddie was, predictably, washing dishes with his phone in his pocket, playing a Christmas album in Spanish. When Eddie turned to look at him, a smile on his face, his happiness went up to a 98.4%.
Buck stumbled into a kitchen chair, nearly folding in half over it, huffing out a loud oof.
Eddie’s eyes went wide and he turned off the faucet, rushing over. “What the hell, man? You just totally-”
“Lost in my head,” Buck mumbled, cheeks ablaze as he righted the chair and himself. “Just knocked the wind out of myself, ignore me.”
or
As a child, Buck developed the ability to grant Christmas wishes. He finds this year a bit harder when Christopher makes a very particular wish; Eddie's complete happiness.

Summary
On July Fifth — though she learns that after — Heather wakes up in a hospital bed. She’s got a broken nose and two cracked ribs and she turns eighteen in a month and a half and her parents are dead. Steve Harrington is in the next bed, Robin Buckley from fourth period English curled into his side, and Steve’s watching her when Heather wakes up — Robin, that is. He only turns to Heather when she makes a groaning little noise, and his face is worse than she’s seen it before, because Steve gets his ass handed to him a lot for some reason — and maybe she knows the reason now — and he looks at her with those big cow eyes of his, smiles in a way that’s also a wince.
Or: Heather lives.

Beautiful exploration of what might have happened if Heather had lived. Love all the little details in this one, from the advice Heather gives El on dealing with bullies to Steve's dad looking up one day and just accepting he might've always had two kids since he genuinely pays that little attention.

In a note at the beginning, the author says that "the overwhelming majority of this is just them being deranged about each other" and YES, yes, it is. And it's glorious. I want to live in this world all the time--maybe not where they actually die occasionally but where they're totally deranged for each other, and it's mutual, and it's scorching hot, and it's maybe a teensy bit creepy all at once. This is my happy place.

Summary
Eddie is in love with his best friend.
But not in, like, a romantic way. Because Eddie is straight. He used to be married to Shannon. He has a son. He’s had sex with women, and he usually enjoyed it. Was it ever the crazy, mind-blowing experience he’s heard other people describe? No. But he’s pretty sure those people are exaggerating anyway.
The point is, what he feels for Buck is completely different from anything he felt for Shannon or Ana or Marisol. And if what he felt for them was romantic, that obviously means his feelings for Buck are platonic. It’s just an added bonus that Buck is nice to look at, with his broad shoulders and brawny arms and eyes that sparkle when he smiles.Buck is still living on Eddie’s couch, and it’s been great — really great. But Buck is still talking about moving out, and he can’t let that happen. If there’s a limit to what he’ll do to keep Buck under his roof, Eddie hasn’t found it yet.

Summary
Buck has, he’s always seen Eddie as the sun. Still does. But it really makes Buck blind to when he’s struggling. Especially because Eddie has a tendency to brush it off or keep it to himself until it becomes unbearable and blows up in his face. But thankfully, he’s actually asking for help this time. Or trying to, at least.
“Hey,” he says softly, rubbing Eddie’s arms. “I got you.”
“Apparently I’m touch starved,” he says, trying for a sassy tone. But it comes out squeaky and raw.
And. Oh.
Buck’s pulling him into an embrace before his brain even finishes processing it, no intention of letting go anytime soon. Eddie sighs again, content this time. And god. Buck really is never letting him go.
or
If you ask anyone else, Buck and Eddie have finally figured it out and are extremely insufferable about PDA now. If you ask Buck, he's just helping his very straight best friend out. Very platonically.

Is it weird if I say that I love how this is such a sweet serial killer story? It's just that the Maddie+Buck elements are just so fantastic, and Buck gets to be brave and smart (and self-sacrificing, obviously, but that goes without saying), and the rest of the team just loves him so much (my favorite scene is the one where they all crack up over the idea of Buck as a serial killer) that I found myself cooing at some point. Over a serial killer fic. That I keep rereading. Because it's lovely, and I love it so very much.

"Listen, I can read between the lines. You're the birthday girl, he's the fiancé, I'm the present, right? Full disclosure, I have like six and a half roommates, so I hope you don't want to come to my place."
"Jesus, I knew the economy was bad, but six? And a half?" Tommy asks.
"That's four official roommates, two roommates' girlfriends who don't pay rent, and one fuckbuddy who supposedly isn't anything serious but still sleeps over four nights a week." Buck counts them off on his fingers. It's not that he doesn't ever bring girls back to his place, but he knows instinctively that a woman like Abby deserves better than a mattress on the floor and music blasting from the other side of the wall.
"Can't argue with that math," Abby says, finishing her wine.
"Well, we don't have any roommates," Tommy says, "but we do have a California king."

Summary
Buck is so happy to have Eddie and Chris back home. It’s been great, the three of them adjusting to living together seamlessly, as at ease as they are anywhere, but it’s been a long time since Buck has shared a living space with someone and even longer since he’s shared with someone he’s not dating. Which. Poses some challenges.
Eddie had insisted they just share the master bedroom, that first night, when Buck went to set up the couch. They’d done it before, at the Loft during quarantine, and it had been Buck’s bedroom for five months while Eddie was in El Paso but sharing a bed with Eddie, night after night, seeing him in the morning, sleep mussed and yawning. It’s truly testing Buck’s sanity.
