Hawks has slipped back onto his chair in the meantime. Pushed the bottle away from himself in the process, but he’s keeping the still-full shot glass close at hand. Drink in case of emergency. “Bullshit,” he says. “Don’t play coy, it’s unbecoming for a man your age.”
“I don’t want to influence your decision.”
“You don’t want to–” Hawks would ruffle his feathers in sheer irritation if he still had them. “Really? We’re going there?”
There’s only carrots and potatoes left in Mera’s container, roughly chopped and swimming in lukewarm curry. Hawks watches Mera move the remaining pieces around – probably looking for something more interesting.
“Endeavor said yes when I asked last week,” he says at length. There, he’s finally found it: the last bit of eggplant hiding almost forgotten in a corner. “Jeanist too, if it matters. Yesterday.”
Hawks downs the shot.
(Or, the one where Hawks tries to Figure It Out after the war and slowly realises that he doesn't have to do it alone. It's a love story, baby!)

“Hawks?” Enji voice is wet, spitting up blood with the word. His eyes are searching unseeingly for the other man.
“I’m right here, Enji,” he reassures as he uses his sleeve to brush some of the blood from his lover’s face “I’m right here with you, Big Guy, help is almost here, just hang on.” His voice carries the same false confidence he always relies on to mask his feelings. He knows Enji can see right through it, but the older man smiles anyway, just a little, soft. This isn’t Endeavor the Hero looking up at Hawks right now. This is Enji the man, the man Hawks wants to spend his life beside- however much is left.

He’d never thought life could be like that.
It was peaceful, here in Hawks’ flat. Life was easy. Hawks even made him laugh, with his antics and terrible jokes and dramatic reenactment of the day’s events. Enji hadn’t realized before how long it had been since he laughed last, how rare it was. He expected for Hawks to get tired of him, for him to get tired of Hawks, but it never came. They shared meals and silence and a bed in the other man’s apartment and it was absurd, how easy it was.
It's been a few months.

Hawks walks into his kitchen and hops up onto the counter. Enji follows, lets himself be pulled into the space between Hawks' legs. Hawks grins at him, but Enji can see the way it flickers. "Did you know that every time you kiss me, you look sad after? And you always pull away right after we fuck. One time you put your arm around me and then you moved it away so fast you nearly knocked my wings off. Sometimes you’ll smile and then when you realize you’re smiling you start scowling immediately."
Enji listens to this. Hawks is right, of course. Enji won't let himself get close, but he won't pull away either. How cowardly and selfish, that he's taken happiness from so many people but won't give up on it himself.

It started as a self-indulgent story in which Endeavor is not only Izuku's dad, but also has to raise him, since Inko died, and ended up as a monster of a story about Enji becoming a Good Dad (tm) to everyone who can't run fast enough, and in which everyone gets a cookie in the end. Be warned: 1) Shigaraki's cookie is very Special, 2) Touya's very small, but still is (sorry, Touya fans :( ). 3) quite a lot of EndHawks here, 4) very little BakuDeku (so if you came here for that then nope, sorry, the tag is to warn the haters of that pairing)
