Summary
Brienne gathered all her courage: not the battle-courage she could reach for as readily as a sword, but a different courage, a naked, vulnerable kind she had never had need of before. She looked Jaime in the eyes. ‘Are you trying to say you missed me?’
He made a strange face, then looked away, as if her eyes had burned him. ‘I —’ He cleared his throat, then squinted through the trees. ‘Is that a rabbit?’ he exclaimed, and took off, his horse whinnying at the sudden spur.

Summary
They had always been each other’s mirror. She had seen herself as a knight in his eyes before his sword had ever touched her shoulder. He had seen a better version of himself in her, and that was what had made him hers: the same reason she now had to lose him.
He touched her face. ‘I will find you. If I survive this. I will come for you, and I will never leave your side unless you ask me to.’

Summary
Jaime blinked at her. He drew back a little, only a little, and looked at her as if she was the dawn at the end of a long night, only he’d been fighting with his back to the fire for so long he thought he might be imagining her. ‘Are you sure?’ he asked.

This is a language no one else in the world is fluent in: the glint in Nicky’s eye, the unbearable gentleness with which he pushes Yusuf flat against the bed.

Summary
“I’m not sleeping there!”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t want to spend the next months getting my throat slit in the night!” he hisses.
“Oh, don’t underestimate yourself,” says Yusuf, leaning back on the low cot on his elbows, quite enjoying himself. “I’m sure you’ll be slitting my throat as well.”
[Yusuf dies, and dies, and dies, and lives, as well, for a thousand years. Nicolo's by his side for all of them, and it's not quite the love story of eternity, but it's theirs: and that's enough for them both.]

Summary
The idea brings its own problems, of course. Rey was a one for so long that it’s been hard to get used to being a two with Finn, but at least for that she has seen models that she could learn from, even living and scavenging in the wastes of Jakku. There were some raggedy families headed up by parents; one or two young couples who shared their food and took turns sheltering each other from the sun.
She has no frame of reference for this, for threeness, but she knows she wants it. Never mind that she’s never seen it done before. She’ll have to make it up as she goes; at least she’s good at that.
There’s the family you’re born into, and then there’s the one you make for yourself.
