The UNSC Winter of Discontent encounters a slipspace anomaly en route to Earth after the Covenant attack. They emerge from slipspace finding themselves in a familiar yet different galaxy. Thrust into an alternate reality where Earth is safe, no one has heard of 'the Covenant', and humanity has prospered into a golden age.
The crew of the Winter grapples with the prospect of being permanently trapped in their new reality, and the temptation to embrace it. In the meantime, they must fend off those in the Alpha Quadrant who consider them a threat, or worse, a prize.
Though considered technologically inferior by the local powers, the sheer scale of the UNSC ship's design, complexity, and audaciously brutal, if primitive, weapons, along with their peculiar manner of interstellar travel sparks interest and intrigue.
The Winter's crew, battle-hardened veterans of an uncompromising war, and entirely human—save for the ship's AI—further intrigues, worries, and antagonizes the major powers of the Alpha quadrant, and beyond.
A Covenant fleet found on the loose in the new reality further complicates matters. Their ultimate goals in the new galactic paradigm enigmatic, but decidedly deadly for any in their path.
