Summary
Ougai Mori is a man who had been given a purpose: keeping the city of Yokohama safe. The issue is that, as an ex-army doctor turned back alley physician who's got little in the way of allies these days, fulfilling the task has a number of barriers he's having a difficult time overcoming. Cutting off the head of the beast that is the Port Mafia before it strangles the life out of the city without creating a different problem is a challenge not designed for a lone individual.
When he's introduced to a teenager with little left to lose and a great deal to offer, Mori has no qualms deciding to use him as a pawn for his more immediate plans. It doesn't take him long to realise his "end justifies the means" approach might have been a mistake this time as the young boy called Osamu Dazai proves to be useful, but also a lot to handle.(Set between Mori and Dazai's first meeting and the Dark Era, this FF is intended as a character study of sorts for mainly Mori with a side of Dazai, featuring both canon and non canon events as well as a number of headcanons regarding the characters. Story title/chapter names are based on the song "How not to drown" by Chvrches)

Summary

Summary
Dazai shows up to Bar Lupin with bloody knuckles and a fever, playing it off with his usual grin. “He was annoying as hell. Couldn’t keep his mouth shut and wouldn’t stop mocking me. It’s not like I killed him.”
“I hope you didn’t. We need both of them alive.”The other man hisses lowly as he walks over and uses his foot to roll Dazai over. He frowns when he sees the pale face, smudges of blood and dirt clinging to it and glares at his partner.
“Does it look like he’s breathing to you?”“He is, I know he is!”
The man walks over, crouches down in front of Dazai and Kunikida’s stomach drops. Heart beating a mile per minute, he watches as the man feels for Dazai’s pulse only to furrow his brows.
“Fuck. There’s no pulse, what should we do—”
Feeling like the ground beneath him just crumbled, Kunikida blinks furiously. Dazai can’t be dead. He can’t be. Throat closing up, he opens his mouth a few times only for no sound to come out.
