"I am not asking what you expect," he interrupts, keeping his tone gentle, though, so as not to scare her out of this spell of vulnerability he's found her in tonight. "I am asking simply what you desire for yourself. Do you want a baby, Pen?"

To Colin, the narrative is clear. The sweet sidekick best friend is going to end up with the main character, everyone will cheer, they'll all worship at the altar of a series well done and then beg their mum to let them start series five instead of going to bed. She'll almost immediately cave, allowing quick toilet breaks and re-fluffing of pillows (maybe even an exchange of blankets) before they all settle back into the cosy pile that is their Friday nights.
But here is the problem, and it's a problem that they have never had before when watching a film or show together: Penelope Featherington disagrees with him.
Disagrees. With him.
She seems irked every time he brings up the couple's very clear soulmatism, which is getting on Colin's nerves because he's right, and no matter what show they're watching, Penelope has always agreed before.

Huh. She's late. By five days. Which — she's not exactly dedicated to remembering to mark down her periods in this stupid app (Eloise told her not to use it anyway, says the company is probably selling her data onto advertisers so her personalised ads can sync up with her cycle). And her periods aren't particularly regular.
She is so busy staring at the red blobs she almost walks into a posh old lady wearing a Chanel jacket coming out of Harrods. She apologises and hurries on, opening Whatsapp.
Pen: period's late. what if I'm pregnant
Edwina: haha. with whose sperm? you can't get pregnant from masturbating to pictures of pedro pascal
Penelope swallows, a lump in her throat. Because — right. She never told Edwina about Colin, did she?
