Summary
Naruto was a pariah to the people of Konohagakure, the Jinchūriki of the Nine Tailed Fox.
To most, Naruto was a demon. He was a terrible being that existed to bring great suffering to their world. That was, until they realized he was more than he seemed. When it was revealed that Naruto was able to use Wood Style, many quickly changed their attitudes. Suddenly, he was the village's future, its hope. In their mind's they saw a vision of the past, of the Shodaime crushing the enemies of Konoha with a wooden colossus.
It took many years for people to realize something.
Naruto was a failure.
A canon divergent AU with a Mokuton-ish Naruto.

Summary
The "Red Haired Fox" was an entity that many had heard tales of. It was something that Konoha kept locked away, and for good reason too. It had come after the devastating attack by the Kyuubi, and had integrated itself among her people. It was a vicious and dangerous demon that craved human flesh. Konoha locked it away, but rumor still spread of it's dark desire for humankind.
Of course, this was all a lie.

After all, if there's one thing all shinobi fear, it's paperwork
And nobody knew this better than Naruto.
