Eddie's at his side, holding his hand. Something tells Steve he's been out of it for a while. Wouldn't be the first time.
"I've got ya, Stevie," Eddie says.
Voice distorted by the roar of a flame, of a fire. He feels no panic. Eddie is here. Steve smiles weakly, lips termbling at the effort before smoothing down. His ears are ringing and an alarm is sounding. He should be panicking he thinks.
"You always do," Steve agrees.
Ribs still hurt, his head too. Probably have another concussion. Robin's going to be pissed.

"We'll be there!"
And sure enough, bright and early, but not so early that the coffee ain't done percolating. That boy has a nose for coffee. Amy is bouncing on her little toes, hair done up in a braid. She's holding onto Steve and Eddie's hands. Behind them are the other boys. The little pack all smell of excitement and joy. It's been too long. They load up into Steve's minivan, ain't none of them willing to risk Amy's safety squishing into his truck. Maybe when she's older he'll let her ride in the back. Let her experience the same joy Eddie did.

Hopefully, seeing the justice he rains down upon Harrington, upon her brother will save her. Show her the error of her ways. To extinguish a light so young will be painful but to let her continue down the path of darkness? Unstomachable.
"Sins must not be allowed to fester. Repent and be saved. Give up the demon and be forgiven."
Harrington lifts his head. One eye is swollen shit, both lips busted, nose bleeding. Jason did that. His hands are stained.

Amy crinkles her nose at the nickname. She shares both father's feeling about those bugs, despite liking literally every other bug up to and including scorpions.
"What we doing?"
Eddie shudders dramatically, getting her to laugh.
"We're going camping… glamping? Cabining? We're staying in a cabin for a week or so because if I let your momma lay on the ground in a tent like he wanted your grandparents would," he pauses trying to find a kid friendly way of saying 'they'd kill me, chop me up into itty bitty pieces and then feed me to an interdiminsional monster'.
"They'd be very angry at me."
"Cause of da babies?"
"Cause of the babies."
Amy hums softly before nodding her head, satisfied with the answer.

He can call Hopper. A hand presses against his ribs, blinding pain creates stars in the night cast by the blindfold.
"You with me?"
"Yes, sir."
It slips out. Mind falling back on what to say to his father.
"Your pops owes us a lot of money, you understand? We provide services for cash. We had a deal and the fucker didn't deliver his end. So now he pays or loses the questionable heir he has in you."
There's movement behind him. Hands in his hair. Hands on his right arm.
"You're going to dial him up. Prove your still alive, tell him that we want our promised hundred and fifty thousand bucks and in thirty minutes we'll tell him where to drop it off."
The blindfold falls. If Steve wasn't so far gone on Eddie, the Alpha in front of him would have caused his heart to skip a beat. Square jaw with a strong nose. Soft full lips. And sure, there's an angry scar that trails from the corner of his left eyebrow down to the corner of his face but it no more makes him ugly than the torn, angry scar on Eddie does. It's the grey eyes though, that scare Steve. Cold. Lifeless. There is no humanity in those eyes.
"Do you understand?"
"Yes, sir."
