“Great, so Copeland has it all sorted?” Buck asks, but he’s reading the page, and his stomach is sinking to the bottom of the ocean.
Because he sees it, the capitalized words in dark black ink.
DENIED.
“Deported, Evan. You didn’t fill out some paperwork on time, Copeland said she tried to call.”
There’s a knock at the door, and then in walks Diaz.
“Sorry, sorry to interrupt. Mr. Buckley, Carla’s on the line and she’s requesting your attention as soon as possible, says it’s an emergency,” Diaz is good, damn him, for a second Buck actually thought Carla needed him, and he’s taking a moment to breathe as Diaz keeps lying. “I told her you were engaged in a meeting, but she insisted, so…” Diaz trails off, looking at Buck oddly and that’s fair, because Buck’s staring at him like he's the solution to every puzzle in the world.
He just might be.

Summary
Eddie couldn’t look at the sympathetic tilt of Frank’s eyebrows for another second, so he trained his gaze over Frank’s shoulder. Ever since Chris had left, it had felt like the earth had stopped spinning. Like Eddie was frozen in time, forced to interminably live in the moment that his son had left him.
But as he looked out the window behind Frank, Eddie could see evidence of the world relentlessly marching on. There were trees swaying in the breeze, a woman walking down the sidewalk, pushing a stroller. In the distance, a plane took off into the cloudless blue sky. If he stood up to get a better view, Eddie would probably be able to see Buck’s Jeep in the parking lot below. He’d dropped him off forty minutes ago and promised to be there when Eddie was done.
