She forgets.
He makes it easy to forget, does it on purpose. She should’ve known better, because she knows him.

He started to nod, then put his voice behind it. “Yes.”
She looked at him, and he looked back, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that something momentous was taking place. The girl with the Goddess blood and the boy with the spirit of the Hero, bound together by fate to fight a war they never wanted a part in. Summary
This tale in the making is about the beginnings of Link and Zelda falling in love. It aspires to explore how their bonds deepen before and after the events of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and what the two would realistically be feeling about each other and themselves through it all.
It aspires to question how you know when you really do love someone else, and what that means, and what you want for another person when you love them.
In my mind this starts immediately after the ending of Breath of the Wild where Calamity Ganon is slain, and before its "True Ending" cutscene. It began with two simple questions.
The first: In a memory shown in Breath of the Wild, we know that Princess Zelda thought to leave a message for Link with the Great Deku Tree. It said to wait. What was she going to say?
The second: How would "Link's House" become "Zelda's House" after the ending of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild?
This all led to a big question more vital than any canon. If at some point the love of Link and Zelda were tested, what would that look like and how would that be overcome? My theory about loving another is the answer.
It's a lot. It's completely new for me. Here we go.

“Thank you Link, Hero of Hyrule.”
Her voice flows over him, filling him the way it had so many times since he first heard it in the Shrine of Resurrection. He forces himself to look at the princess he fought so hard to retrieve.
She lowers her head, clasping her hands against her chest. “May I ask…do you really remember me?”
She meets his eyes again, and something inside of him cracks. With pity. With pain. Because, as he stares at Princess Zelda, descendant of the goddess, the one who has guided him and called to him all this time, he knows he is about to break her heart.
Because he does not remember her at all.

After the defeat of Calamity Ganon, Link and Zelda set off to unite Hyrule, despite the fact that Link does not have his memories, and Zelda is still recovering from her imprisonment in the castle. Along the way, they wrestle with their relationships with each other, themselves, and the people they want to protect.
This story serves as a loose connection between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, exploring the relationship between Link and Zelda in the wake of disaster.

While revisiting the Great Plateau, Zelda tells Link about a legend she heard about the River of the Dead in the snowy cold area of the Plateau. Link tries to tell her nothing is wrong with the river and they get into a situation.
This is based off a cool idea I had about the River of the Dead, and I'm a sucker for hurt/comfort and zelink, so here you go, enjoy.

Despite her displeasure with her new Knights presence everywhere she goes, she understands he is the best suited to complete the task at hand: Keep her safe while she struggles to awaken her power, her birthright, before Calamity Ganon returns once again to destroy Hyrule, once and for all.
Pressured by her father, fearful of her failure, and pursued by the Yiga Clan, she strives to awaken her powers in time to protect her home and fulfil her destiny.
It would help if the Princess and the Knight who wields the Sword that Seals the Darkness got along.
