Summary
Mayday is a lead conservationist at a marine research and rehabilitation center who specializes in seabeasts, an elusive species that seem to have inspired stories of both mermaids and krakens. She possibly knows more about them than any other human, partially responsible for nearly every published work on the subject. Unfortunately, that's not saying much.
The limited information means her and her team are severely underprepared for taking care of an orphaned newborn, but when they can't find a safe way to return him to the wild, they realize they're his only chance.
And things only get more complicated when little Hobie starts learning to speak.Series

Miles tries to sit up and hates how impossible the task feels. He wants so badly to find Hobie and tell them what's happening, but the relief of being here is already setting in so fast. He can't stop his body from giving up.
All he can do is cry.

"Miles!" Rio snaps, and the toddler freezes mid climb up a staircase of pulled out kitchen drawers. "I said no snacks. It's almost time for dinner." She snatches him up onto her hip and knocks the drawers closed with her leg.
"Not Miles. Mila."
Rio pauses to double check, but she's certain she hasn't made a mistake, and it's not the first time the kids have tried to play The Mixup Game.
"You can't blame this on your sister, mijo. You're the one in trouble."
"Mija! Yo soy Mila!" Rio winces at the whining voice so close to her ear.

Pavitr does a flip over the kitchen table between them then pulls Miles into a tight hug, lifting him and spinning a full 360 on his heel, "I've missed you so much!" Miles laughs and hugs back just as tight, briefly reassured by Pavitr's words, but when he glances at Gayatri she still seems upset.
"Miles..." Gayatri's voice is quiet, and she sounds uncertain as she looks at her lap. It's so unlike her. Pavitr grips Miles' hand tightly as they wait for her to continue. "Do you and the others... not like me?"

"Excited for the extra time with you guys! Well.... I guess just 'you' today...." Miles wants to scream. 'Just you????' Come on, Miles, get it together! "I mean! Not 'just you' as in 'I don't want to hang out with you!' You know, I mean it like 'it's just us'," oh no that sounds too right! "Aaaagh! Look! What I mean is...." Miles takes a deep breath in an attempt to steady himself. It barely works.
Hobie is staring at him; amused, confused, and expectant.

Far as Hobie knows, there’s no 1930s Manners Rulebook to study, and he wouldn’t anyway, because fuck societal standards (also a book like that would very likely be bloody misogynistic). But being this kind of decent matters to Parker, and Parker matters to Hobie, so he’s gotta get with the fucking program.

Summary
Hobie had gotten used to the death threats long ago. It kind of came with the territory of publicly opposing President Osborn's fascist regime. It had long since become repetitive, most of them wanting to shoot him or whatever. They all said the same shit, and none of them ever did anything about it.
But there's that old saying: “You have to be lucky every time. We only have to be lucky once.” If you’d asked Hobie, he would say he didn’t believe in luck, it’s just preparation and opportunity. None of those keyboard warriors ever had the balls to actually plan an attack, let alone attempt it. But eventually, one of them was prepared to carry out the revolting plans he’d detailed on a white supremacist forum. And despite the Spider Army affinity group’s best efforts to protect their beloved Spider-Punk, along came an opportunity.
Imprisoned in a basement upstate, Hobie has lost all hope. He knows he's going to die here, not as a martyr for the revolution, but as a victim of his neo-Nazi captor's violent fantasies.
Not if Peter Benjamin "Noir" Parker has anything to say about it, though.

For Peter, telling his aunt and uncle about what Skip had done to him was a whole lot harder than those two simple sentences made it sound. It wasn’t easy for May or Ben, either.
