It starts when he breaks up with Taylor. Or maybe it starts when Maddie leaves again, when Chim tells him over and over again that he's done with him. Maybe it even starts when Eddie was shot, when Buck's entire world crumbles in front of him for the thousandth time and he can't do anything except sit back and watch.
Buck can't take everyone leaving him again, can't take being alone anymore. So this time, he leaves first.
Or he tries to. Eddie doesn't let him. When Buck pulls away, Eddie follows him. And Buck finally lets himself break.

“Do I have to?” Buck asked, flinching when Dana’s eyes turned sharp. “Do I have to testify?”
A fine tremor had settled into Buck’s hands, working up his arms into his shoulders, and Bobby couldn’t help but feel like he was watching Buck splinter in front of him.

“No getting out of it now.” Bobby’s steady voice makes him flinch.
“We literally haven’t moved.”
“You could run,” Bobby says with a shrug. “But then you’d have to deal with Athena.” He steps into the RV.
Turning around, Buck sees Athena standing at the doorway, her hand still in the air. When she catches his eye, something in her expression shifts. He’s seen that expression before. Typically, she uses it on people who are about to flee arrest.
I fucking dare you.
Sighing, Buck gets on the RV.

After a call that is almost his last, Buck is having a hard time. He’s avoids his family, his friends, and everything in between. When Bobby suggests they go on a road trip, he almost laughs. But what’s worse? He actually says yes.

Steve refuses, giving the vague answer that small towns have small minds, and waves off any concern from his two friends. But when Tommy Hagan comes in and brags to Eddie about beating the shit out of Steve for defending him, Eddie's brain shuts down for a second.
OR
Steve gets beaten up for hanging out the town's most hated innocent man, Eddie Munson. Eddie is not happy about this arrangement, neither is Robin.
