Summary
“Another body found in Griffith Park today–” Taylor Kelly’s voice projects into the living room from the television, five o’clock news playing, and Eddie scowls, turning it off and tossing the remote onto the coffee table in front of him.
Eddie doesn’t want to think too hard about it, especially when his phone lay next to him, full of ominous messages from an unknown number.

Summary
Eddie drags a hand over his face, forces himself to look away, but it’s too late. The image is seared into his brain now, lodged deep in the part of him that logic has no power over.
He is fully, shamefully, helplessly thirsting over a complete stranger.
And then the guy laughs.
It’s low and warm, a perfect sound, the kind that sends a shiver down Eddie’s spine and makes his stomach clench. His willpower crumbles like a sandcastle as he risks another glance.
Huge mistake.
The guy is looking right at him.
His head tilts slightly, amusement flickering across his perfect features and he grins.
He knows.
Eddie clears his throat and abruptly turns away, shoving his attention back to his coffee before he does something stupid, like hold eye contact for too long. Or worse…smile back.
“You’re pathetic.”
“I know.”
Or; Alternative meeting, Eddie and Buck meet in a coffee shop and fall in love in seven days.

Summary
“Buck…I’m going to need you to say what you are trying to say clearly, because I’m starting to feel a little jerked around,” Eddie said.
“I’m- I’m sorry. That’s not what I’m trying to do I promise. I want this to work between us I do! But, Tommy said something and I can’t get it out of my head.”
Eddie took a step back, and Buck’s hands fell from his shoulders.
“You talked to Tommy about us?” Eddie couldn’t hide his look of betrayal. “Recently?”
“No, it wasn’t about us. It was about us- I mean Tommy and I. I’m not explaining this well at all!” Buck said exasperated.
Or Buck is feeling insecure about being the first man to date Eddie. Eddie just wants to date his best friend.

Summary
“I thought we got everything into the U-Haul? Isn’t that why we got this big ass truck in the first place?”
Buck shrugs, a secretive, apprehensive look on his face. “Oh, yeah, we did. All of your and Chris’ stuff is in here,” he confirms, which only serves to further confuse Eddie.
“Okay,” he says slowly, drawing out the word as he warily eyes the large white container. “Then, what’s with the giant metal box in my driveway?”
His best friend shrugs again, hopping back into the truck and pulling the rest of the boxes forward, as well as all the furniture they’d loaded into the front. “Oh, that’s my stuff,” he answers easily, like Eddie should’ve anticipated that answer.
Or - Buck finally figured out what he wants, and he's not about to let them move out of his life for good without a fight.

Summary
“Buck? Hey! I’m stuck in the craziest traffic, just trying to get Jee from daycare!”
“Eddie’s moving,” Buck blurts out on the other end.
Maddie inches the car forward as she recalibrates — looks like it’s going to be one of those conversations. She defaults to big-sister snark. “Hello, Maddie, how are you? I’m doing great, Buck! What about you?”
He sighs gustily, making her car speakers crackle. “I just told you how I am, Maddie! Eddie’s —”
“He’s moving. I got that. How is Buck doing?”
Buck calls Maddie. Maddie calls Eddie. Eddie calls Buck. They get there.

Summary
Nothing in this house is packed up, but it’s been cleaned in a frenzy, Eddie mulling over options to possibly sublet it, or turn it into an Airbnb, or do anything but leave it empty. At the same time, he can’t fathom anyone else filling the same corners that he’d so painstakingly built with warmth and love and grief and his whole fucking family . He doesn’t want to let a stranger into those memories, into the corners where Buck and Chris live.
A sharp, desperate knock stops him from spiraling about it further. It’s harried, a bang that startles him as the pounding continues.
He shouldn’t have been surprised to find Buck at the door.
Or, Eddie's moving to Texas, Buck wants something from him, and they come together only to be torn apart 9 hours later.

Summary
If your car hits a tree in the middle of nowhere, does it make a sound? Eddie suspects it should have, but as he blinks awake, all he can hear is the ringing in his ears from the impact. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t shake the sound away, can’t clear his blurry vision.
The cookies Buck had baked for him and Christopher are destroyed, crumbs carpeting the passenger seat. He doesn’t know why, but that’s the sight that nearly pushes him over the edge.

Summary
“What are you making for dinner?”
“I was just going to reheat some leftovers,” Buck says. Eddie makes a noncommittal noise on the other end, sounding almost disappointed. “What, were you hoping I’d make you something?”
“No, I—” Eddie hesitates, then sighs. “I sort of wanted to listen to you cook.” The softness in his voice shifts to teasing. “You talk so much while you do it, I figure it’ll fill all the silence here. But I can just watch TV instead, once I figure out how to—”
“No, no, I’ll cook something. Only because you asked so nicely. I’ll put you on speaker, okay?”
As Buck sorts through Eddie’s fridge, deciding what he can throw together, he and Eddie fall into their usual chatter. When he’s at the stove, facing away from his phone resting on the table, he can almost imagine that Eddie is here with him and not 800 miles away.
(Buck and Eddie talk on the phone almost constantly, and one thing leads to another.)

Summary
“Y’know,” Buck says, drawing the tips of his fingers over Eddie’s knuckles, where they’re slotted with Buck’s other hand in the space between them, “if I took your last name, we’d have the same initials.”
Eddie blinks, suddenly much more awake than he was five seconds ago. “What?”
“Yeah,” Buck continues, oblivious. “You’re E.D., Edmundo Diaz, and I’d be E.D. too. Evan Diaz.”
Eddie’s stomach swoops at the sound of that, and he fixes his eyes on Buck’s face. Stares hard at him until he catches onto it.
“Is that— is that something you’ve thought about before?” Eddie asks.

Summary
Nova slowly reaches out a tiny hand, brushing her fingertips across the birthmark on his face. The touch is light, barely there, but it hits him like a wave, a connection so pure and immediate that it fills his chest with a warmth he can hardly contain.
“Hi,” she murmurs softly, and when he smiles back at her, she lets out the smallest giggle, her eyes lighting up. It’s the most beautiful sound he’s ever heard, and in that moment, the weight of everything—his fears, his doubts, his past mistakes—falls away.
It’s like he’s discovering a part of himself he didn’t know existed, a love so powerful it feels like it’s been there all along, waiting for her. The way she looks at him, the way she seems to see him without needing to know who he is or where he’s been, fills him with a sense of purpose that feels both exhilarating and humbling.
