Mike Wheeler’s summer goals were simple: survive the humiliating polyester sailor suit of Scoops Ahoy and save enough money to buy a new D&D manual. He didn't account for the heatwave, the sudden influx of girls flirting with his "indie-rock" hair, or the fact that Will Byers was working twenty feet away at Surfer Boy Pizza in a yellow visor that made Mike’s brain stop functioning.
Between trying to write his phone number on melting ice cream cups and surviving Max’s blunt commentary on Will's "athletic" development, Mike is losing his mind. But when the mall lights go out and the grease-and-sugar tension finally boils over on a flour-dusted prep table, Mike realizes that being a "Little Sailor" might not be so bad—as long as he has a Pizza Prince to come home to.
Or: The one where Mike pines, Will glares, and Max Mayfield deserves a raise for dealing with both of them.

Summary
Set after season 4 ending before season 5 begins aka the 18-month gap (the Byers are living with the Wheelers).
El's and Mike's relationship took a huge toll after what happened with Max hence the breakup. Feeling guilty, Mike goes down a destructive path and unexpectedly Andy-Jason's friend-takes an interest in Mike. Will just wants to make sure Mike is safe and his feelings stay hidden, but how long can he when he finds himself glued to Mike's hip once Holly is deemed to be in sudden danger. Dustin is drifting away, unable to cope with Eddies death, and Lucas is trying his best to keep the party together despite his own problems.
Byler and Jancy parallels from season 1 and season 2 as well as the party being there for each other.

"It's complicated," Mike says.
"Well, make it less complicated!"
Dustin throws his hands up. "Yeah, are you guys dating, or are you fighting? Because there's no way you're just friends anymore."
Will opens his mouth. His eyes are wide and a little scared, and Mike doesn't like it, but he looks back anyways.
His brain is doing the thing where it moves faster than he can follow it. Two options, Dustin said.
Will's mouth is still open. Mike thinks about fighting, and his brain slams shut. Nope. He thinks about everything Will said four days ago. If those are the only two options, Mike already knows which one he's picking.
"We're... dating," Mike says.
Or, Mike Wheeler decides that fake dating his best-friend-turned-hookup is a better option than losing him.

Will raised an eyebrow at his friend's antics, then dropped his eyes to where he knew Dustin had reached a hand out towards him.
“This summer, we stick together. You and me, Byers.”
Will grinned, taking Dustin’s hand and shaking it. “You and me, Henderson.”
A rewrite of S3:
The night Dustin gets back from Camp Knowhere, he brings the Party up to the highest point in Hawkins to set up Cerebro. He thought that his friends would be excited to have him back-- even if it wasn't the most entertaining to sit on a hill and talk into a radio with no response, he thought they would at least wait for him before going home. He thought it was going to be the best summer ever.
Instead, he finds himself and the one friend that didn't leave him, Will Byers, intercepting a weird Russian transmission.
And, well... if he couldn't have the best summer ever, at least he and Will would have an eventful one.
