Summary
Eddie rents an AirBnB in El Paso for a while instead of buying a house (because that's crazy, Eddie slow down) and Eddie being gone means Bobby has to fill his spot. This means he has to hear Buck constantly talk about one of the new firefighters at the 118. Subsequently, his entire world turns upside-down. Right-side up?
Excerpt: “We were on our way back from a structural, and Sanchez mentioned their kid. Holy shit, Eds. If I didn’t know Jee… she was just so cute! Little blonde pigtails and everything. She and Jee are about the same age, I think Brynn is a little younger, but I’m thinking of asking Devin if she and Jee could have a playdate. I think I might die of cuteness.”
A kid with cute blonde curls. Buck loves kids.
“That sounds like a good plan. What are your plans for the next 48 off?” Eddie asks, trying to steer away from conversations that make him want to throw his phone.
“I think I’m actually going to take Sanchez up on the offer to join them on a hike. They haven’t been since they got in from Seattle and so I figured I would take them on that trail that we took Chris that one time?"

Bobby slaps both gloved palms against the glass. “What are you saying, Buck?”
Buck doesn’t reply. He won’t meet Bobby’s eyes. He bows his head a little, reaching for the latch on his helmet.
“Buck!” Cold dread spills into the sockets of all of Bobby’s joints. “What are you doing!”
Buck fumbles to release the lock, but he gets it on the second try.
“Put your helmet back on! Kid!”

Embark with me on an angsty journey as we imagine a universe in which it was not Bobby who was infected with CCHF, but Buck. (Ps I mainly chose lawsuit era so that the kids could be closer in age 🤷🏻 if you don't like lawsuit era fics I swear that it's not super relevant past a certain point in the fic. It's very buddie heavy and cute and silly for the most part)

Summary
Soon after Eddie leaves for El Paso to be with Chris, Buck laments his new living situation, while dreading the uncertain future he faces and wondering if he'll ever find home again. Suddenly, his life is upended once more when he faces his past in a way he never expected.
When Eddie returns less than a week later with Chris in tow, he is baffled to find an entirely new family living in the home where he left his heart. Which begs the question, where is the man he left behind? And why does it feel like he's gone for good?
Canon divergent AU where Bobby lives (obviously), Tommy doesn't come back (obviously), and Chris wasn't Buck's first kid (what?).

"Well, they are only picking one person per station. And," Buck tried to explain, just coming off as more arrogant. He tried to think of something to say to lighten the mood. Stories about Max usually would lighten the mood, and he knows he has something about Max and calenders, probably.
"Wow, that is a beautiful man," Chimney cut Buck off.
"Where's the lie, and I like girls," Hen agreed.
Buck slowly turned around to look at who they were talking about. It must be a new person, probably B shift. However, when he saw who they were looking at, he was changing into a work shirt. Clearly, a new member of the team. Buck saw red.
It was the asshole from Texas, here in L.A.
Or, Buck had a one night stand years ago that resulted in his son Max. The alpha he slept with turned out to be a cheater so he left. Years later, after being a firefighter for a year, the man is there in the fire station.

“What’s happening Maddie? Where are mom and dad?” He looked up at her with tears in his eyes, and Maddie felt her own eyes burn for her little brother’s sake. She couldn’t answer him, couldn’t even begin to explain what was going on, but she has a sneaking suspicion now that the women sitting down and watching them did. So she turned, wrapping her arms around Buck from the back to keep him close, and eyes them. “Okay, what the hell is going on?” That language probably isn’t the best, actually it was pretty PG compared to what she could have used, but they deserved to know why their parents have suddenly seemed to disappear off the face of the earth.
“Maddie, Buck, Margaret and Phillip Buckley, your mom and dad, they aren’t your real parents.”

He may face having to make the ultimate sacrifice while trying to figure out the best way to say goodbye leaving his girls with a father that was never allowed to raise him.
In this fic one of the medical inaccuracies is involving dying to donate vital organs to save their recipient in this world the donor can chose to do this after going through the legal process. So that’s all I can say I hope you can give this fic a chance and here we go

It was a regular Sunday dinner until Pepa and Isabel, visiting from El Paso, reveal that they somehow found Adriana Diaz and brought her with them. She fits into their little family of outcasts like she was always meant to be there, and it's the best outcome Eddie ever could've hoped for. The fact that Adriana and Buck hit it off helps, too.
Then she asks why Buck's not wearing a ring.
That kick in the ass starts a chain of events years in the making, until Eddie finally confronts that storm he’s been carrying, Buck realizes he has someone in his corner who would go down fighting for him, and, as usual, Chris is smarter than both of them. The 118 just needs something to give. Even Bobby’s infinite patience is running thin.
OR, the trials and tribulations of Evan Buckley and Eddie Diaz as they realize they're in love, a tale in 12 acts.
