Summary
Six months before Ilya Rozanov's 18th birthday, he decides to end it all. Running away from Russia and moving in with his best friend Svetlana at age 15 seemed like a great idea at the time; but it left his life in shambles, and he's tired of trying to fix it or hope for something better. So he takes a nice, long trip away from Boston, where he won't be Sveta's problem anymore, and tries to join his Mama in a better place.
Meanwhile, Shane Hollander's life is crumbling, and slowly he's beginning to realize that there's no coming back from that. All he wanted was to be in control of one thing, between endless hockey practices and constantly setting an example and having to be perfect. That 'one thing' happened to be his eating. A strict performance-enhancing diet. He's so obsessed with controlling himself, that he couldn't even see his "discipline" was getting way out of control until it was too late.
Struggling to hold their heads above water in the chaos and uncertainty that inevitably take place when your life slowly unravels to such a catastrophic degree, they will both come to find out that you can either find someone to hold on to, or you can resign yourself to drowning.

He climbed on the backrest of the cream-colored couches, as he leaned over it, he lost balance and fell over. Somersaulting he crashed into another person. Dark surprised eyes staring at him, big and confused. Ilya's upper half was still on the couch, even if it was in a weird position, his legs tangling over the edge of the couch. Both looked at each other for a moment until the boy across from him put his book down and said something to him that Ilya didn’t understand.
Laying there for a moment, he just looked at him. His face grabbed Ilya's attention. The first thing he noticed were the freckles around his nose spreading over his cheeks. His mother had told him that freckles and birthmarks were places someone who deeply loved you had kissed you in a past life over and over and over again. Sometimes she also told him that they also could mark places that your future love would kiss you so much their love got burned in your body. Eternal testaments of love.
______________________________Ilya and Shane are both 6 year old when they meet at a hotel in Italy. In an instand they became insperable for the two weeks their families stayed there.
