Summary
Tai shouldn't have been surprised when the droning lecture coaxed her temple against a cool plastered wall and the classroom around her blurred.
But she was surprised. Because when her mind flicked back on and her gaze refocused, she was outside.
And it was nighttime. And there was a dial phone in her ear and a glass box on all sides, and the stale air of the lecture hall had turned humid, heady—suffocating.
"Who is this?" The receiver tickled Tai's jaw as a voice broke through, and she flinched violently, stumbling back against the booth and letting the phone fall from her grip. It banged around the space before swinging sadly on its cord.
