Batman is rarely solicited by the Justice League to serve as a handler for "troublesome" new recruits, but this time, it's a punishment for leaving both the League and the Man of Steel leading it. John Constantine can rarely be bothered to give a shit about the Justice League, but this time, it's a punishment for nearly bargaining the world away for an ex-lover. Neither are too happy about this arrangement.
But both, it ought to be said, are gluttons for punishment.

Probably John shouldn’t tell people he was King Shark, social media manager to assorted supervillains. Not everyone was as open-minded as they ought to be. "Ta, nevermind."
