Everyone had found their breaking point at that balcony. A clash of ideals, unfinished business and finally an end to Clover's long journey. Or it would have been, like it usually was. No longer in shape to make any rash decisions, their body battered and bruised, Clover finds their life falling into the hands of another.
Hiding a child which the entire Underground wanted to see dead was one thing. Treating a child of a different species after they had sustained mortal injuries was another.
Martlet had made a promise, and she intended to keep it...even if she wasn't particularly good at keeping those. But this time was different.
...Why did she care so much? Martlet had just met Clover, right? However none of that mattered now. The only thing that did was getting Clover to safety. Everything else could wait.
