“Are you alright?” Jaskier asks. He’s been dragged outside again during the middle of one of his sets. That’s fine. He was almost expecting it. Geralt has become a little bit predictable, and a bad mood usually means he’ll want a quick pick me up at some point.
“I will be in a moment,” Geralt growls, and he pushes Jaskier up against the wall.
And it's fine. Normal. New normal. Jaskier goes and he goes happily and willingly. But there’s something that is tugging on his mind, something that aches.
He doesn’t put his finger on it until afterwards. “You really will have to start being more patient. I do need to make a living – and you dragging me away in the middle of my songs all the time is bad for business.”
Geralt gives a chuckle, “you’re saving money on the whorehouses, are you not?”
And oh.
Geralt is using him for sex.

Summary
How about a little modern Han Ying origin story?
During a messy mission, secret agent Zhou Zishu keeps eighteen year old Han Ying, an innocent bystander, from getting caught in the crossfire, but he gets himself hurt in the process. Han Ying takes the time to patch him up and the rest, as they say, is history.
This work is part of my 七爷/天涯客/山河令 Spy AU, but stands just fine on its own. Just know that Zhou Zishu is a James Bond-esque secret agent, Jing Beiyuan is his snarky, tech-genius handler, and today is not going particularly well for them.
Written for Han Ying Fest (March 2023), an informal collection put together as a surprise for a most lovely friend and Han Ying connoisseur extraordinaire!

Jing Beiyuan is the head Strategist for Da Qing’s Ministry of Intelligence, supporting Zhou Zishu and Wu Xi as field agents. Jing Beiyuan and Wu Xi don't get along particularly well, at first. But when something happens leaving them stuck in the field together on a mission, cut off from both Zhou Zishu and headquarters, the two must learn to work together to ensure their survival, not to mention national security.

“Why,” he started and then changed his mind. It was stupid. Geralt turned to look at him only to find Jaskier already looking back. “How do you keep finding them?”
Jaskier frowned. “Finding what?”
“Those flowers. Yellow ones.”
“Ah,” Jaskier smiled, laughing a bit. “Well, those flowers are buttercups. And how do I find them?” He shrugged. “I think it’s a gift. Oh yes. My natural talent even. I find buttercups everywhere I go.”
“I thought your natural talent was pissing everybody off and getting in trouble.”
“Oh shut up.”
Geralt chuckled.
They fell silent. The only thing Geralt could hear was the chirping of crickets in the grass. It wasn’t exactly what he had meant to ask.
“Why do you always put them in your hair?”
Jaskier shrugged again.
“Why not? I love buttercups,” he said simply as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Oh. Jaskier. Of course. Geralt should have known.

Jaskier simply plucked his bag off of where it was draped over Roach, “Well I guess you can head on Geralt and I’ll catch up. I want to ask these kind Witchers a thing or two.”
Which, absolutely not. Geralt was not just going to up and leave Jaskier with the other Witchers. There was a limited few that Geralt entrusted the safety of his- the bard to.
“No.”
Jaskier snorted at him as he adjusted the strap of his lute case, “I know you’ve been getting annoyed with me this whole trip, this’ll give you a break and maybe give me more inspiration for a new song.”
“Jaskier,” Geralt hissed, but the man only waltzed willingly over to the other two Witchers. He was far too trusting for Geralt’s liking. “Fuck.”
