Summary
He raised his hand with difficulty—it was shaking, his fingers wobbly—and touched his cheek.
Wet.
His cheek was wet.
Tears streamed down his face—silently, without sobs, without a shudder. Just two streams that he hadn't even noticed. Which had probably been flowing for a long time—all the time he lay in the darkness, waiting for death.
Poseidon looked at his wet fingers. Then he looked at Zeus's face—bewildered, almost frightened, with parted lips and frozen lightning in his eyes.
And he grinned.
"Ha."
The grin was crooked, unnatural.
"Ha-ha."
He snorted. Then he laughed quietly—hoarsely, brokenly, like a sick man who's lost his mind. The laughter grew louder, more frantic, turning into hoarse, ragged exhalations.
"Ha-ha-ha-ha!"
And then the laughter broke.

In the service of the goddess Hecate, a device was created that revealed a person's hidden desires. However, within this device, the individual was also required to confront that desire; moreover, everything transpiring within the person's mind was projected into reality in the form of a rectangular frame. The first to test this device were the Olympian gods. Athena went first: her secret desire was for a child—something she could not conceive, as she was a virgin goddess. She successfully resisted her desire and emerged from the illusion. Next was Hera; her secret desire was to leave Zeus. She, too, successfully resisted it. And so, the goddesses successfully withstood their desires, until finally, the turn of the male gods arrived...
Imagine the astonishment of the goddesses—and of Poseidon himself (with the possible exception of Aphrodite, whose own secret desire was simply to see men fighting for her hand)—when it was revealed that every single secret desire harbored by the male gods centered entirely upon the Lord of the Seas...

Poseidon was strange, all the Olympians knew: uncontrollable anger, a sudden desire to hug, and other emotions that changed every second. But the Olympians had grown accustomed to Poseidon's sudden emotional shifts, and they no longer cared much. What concerned them more was the increasing number of statues of an unknown woman, whom mortals called Adonpesia. The mortal sculptors were literally captivated by this woman—she was so beautiful.

He lunged with such fury that the marble beneath him cracked, but the Titans held him tight.
"Don't touch him! He's still a child!"
The words hung in the air, absurd and terrifying. Before them lay the ruler of the heavens, the father of gods and men, gray-haired and powerful. But Poseidon didn't see this. He saw the cave on Crete. He heard the patter of little feet on stone. He saw the funny little boy, his eyes sparkling with delight, tugging at his beard and begging, "Uncle Poseidon, make a wave!" For the god of the seas, Zeus always remained that annoying, incredibly beloved little boy, whom he, big and strong, had to protect.
