No, now he had to be going off on expeditions all the time, giving Madeleine heart attacks and getting himself injured. It had gotten to the point where he dreaded any quests he himself wouldn't be on. Protecting Espresso had become more important to him than the outcomes of the missions- more important than life itself.

(Yes the title is from sofia the first, yes I'm laughing at it, I find it funny-)
In which Phil has created the Antarctic Empire from the ground up and takes in Techno and Wilbur along the way, and raises them while also ruling his kingdom. Tommy, sixteen, lives with Tubbo in an orphanage, the two of them running around in the cold streets of their town.
After a hectic day of getting separated from Tubbo, getting into a few fights, and ending up in an entirely new town, he comes across Phil, and saves him from an assassination attempt by smashing a plate over someone's head.
So then both Techno and Wilbur decide to see who this kid is, and Tommy sure is endearing, in the way that the first time they spy on him, he starts a fight in an alleyway over a bag of cookies.
(and then Tommy basically gets kidnapped into the royal family, but like, legally, y’know?)

incredible work, really. the tone this person uses for the writing makes it feel really elegant while also homey. It's nice and comforting, and the characterization so far is incredible. So, when the three supervillains he'd been assigned to bring in managed to take Tubbo hostage, well, there was really only one thing to do.
He knew, of course, he was signing himself up for torture and death by offering that trade, but that was okay.

The Empire is nearly ten years deep into a seemingly endless Xhorhasian war, each lull in the violence leading to greater and deadlier escalation. So when the Empire initiated negotiations with the Revelry - a quiet endeavour designed the starve Xhorhas into submission, but an unlikely scheme in Caleb’s eyes - it was perhaps justifiable wartime desperation, he reasoned. Unjustifiable however was Caleb’s assignment to lead these negotiations, distracting from his work rooting out more dire threats to peace, perhaps from within the Empire’s own ranks. And this Captain sent to represent the Revelry, Fjord? He was one particular distraction that Caleb could not afford.
An Archmage, a Cobalt Expositor, a spy, three pirates and their Captain with a demigod patron that has plans for all of them find themselves in Zadash to end a war. And Caleb can’t be sure which side he’s on in more than one game of cat and mouse.
