He wasn’t getting what she was hinting at, so she decided to be a bit more direct.
“No, Erend, I’m frustrated.” She couldn’t help the way her cheeks flamed with embarrassment as she gave him a pointed look, her eyebrows rose.
He seemed to get what she was talking about just as he’d decided to take a sip of his ale, where he promptly choked on his drink and set it down with a heavy thud, coughing and spluttering painfully.
“O-Oh…”
What followed was the way his entire face turned a vivid red, starting at his cheeks and extending to the tips of his ears. Aloy could only watch with her mouth open as he closed a fist and thumped at his throat, swallowing loudly and running a shaky hand through his mohawk.
“B-By the forge, warn a guy would ya?” He wheezed, and heat crawled down his neck.

Her final whimper of longing made the last of his restraint snap, his plan for a lazy and cosy afternoon’s reading abandoned with a single focus.

Maybe jumping directly into the path of an oncoming Ice Plume from attacking Frostclaw wasn’t the most intelligent battle strategy Aloy had ever devised.
Having an epiphany in the heat of battle had obviously made her brain short-circuit like a faulty wire in one of her old tripcasters - fine for a few seconds before it snapped back and took her legs out from under her and left her dazed and confused. The Huntress froze dead in her tracks in the snow, quite literally. She could almost laugh at the absurdity of the situation. It was just like her to realize her feelings for her best friend when they were elbow-deep in the midst of a battle!
