Astarion let out a shaky breath, his head still cradled in Wyll’s lap. He focused on the heat from Wyll’s thigh beneath his cheek, anchoring him to the present. To this moment. Not the past. Not the kennels. Not the cold hands that had once gripped him.
“I was only ever made to do it when it pleased him,” he whispered, the confession slipping out like blood from a reopened wound. “Or when it could lure someone in. Or when it was expected. It never felt like it was mine.”
Wyll leaned down slowly, pressing a kiss to Astarion’s forehead, soft and sure. “Then maybe… don’t think about the past. Don’t think about him. Think of something nice.”

“Hm.” Astarion trails a light touch up Kairos’ throat, forcing him to angle his head back further. “In children’s books, perhaps. You’re rather naive, with fangs at your throat.”
“You’re not very scary,” Kairos responds, and Astarion bites him.
Astarion waits for it to get worse. Strangely, it never does.

Summary
Gale had desperately clasped Astarion's wrist, preventing him from fully wrenching away. From fleeing. And for a brief moment Astarion was ready to lash out with all of the feral fury a starving spawn had to offer.
The memory of that scorching touch was like a scar. The imprint of his lightly calloused, bare palm on Astarion's slender wrist was an invisible, white-hot brand upon his flesh. It was only Gale's wide, worried eyes and immediate surrender of Astarion's captured limb that saved him from being torn to ribbons by long-forgotten vampiric claws.
He loathed it. Touching and being touched.
People did not touch Astarion and survive.
Astarion did not touch people destined to live.

Astarion has a complicated relationship with physical touch. It brings up a wellspring of memories best left forgotten, and he doesn't even know if he could enjoy it anymore should he ever let anyone close enough to try... or five times Astarion sees Gale being held and has a lot of difficult feelings about it + the one time he does it himself and knows exactly how he feels about it.
