“Ok,” Cas says after a moment. “Can I just have a bite of your piece? I won’t eat a whole one.”
Dean holds it out to him and bluescreens momentarily when instead of taking it, Cas just leans forward and wraps his lips around the remaining juicy flesh. He makes eye contact as he does it, and that just makes a really fucking weird flip in Dean’s belly and ok. What was that now? It’s slightly hard to breathe because… well damned if Dean knows.
Dean is well... Dean, and Cas has some research he'd like to pursue. He's a man with a plan. An Entity with an Endgame. He knows what he wants and he's just spotted a strategic opening.

“How the fuck do you know my name?” Dean hisses.
The man doesn’t look scared. He is watching Dean like there is nothing else worth watching, lips a little parted, eyes a little soft. And blue. Real blue, like the ocean on a postcard.
The ice spreading down Dean’s spine makes him shiver.
“I suppose you could say I’m your guardian angel,” the man murmurs. His breath fogs pale between them. All of him is unnaturally warm, like Dean’s touching somebody with the sun sewn up beneath their skin. “I have known you, Dean Winchester, for a very long time.”

Dean meets an angel who says he's from the future. It all gets a lot more complicated from there.

Summary
It’s nice, getting to take care of his family, getting to heal his family. Dean’s always been looking out for everyone else, was raised for it, bred for it even, and he’s made his peace with that. Held his baby brother in his arms and he knew what he was made for, going to sleep in beige hotel rooms stained in dark browns and reds with a baby in one hand and a revolver in the other.
He’s never gotten to offer healing, saving, before. It’s the first time since he was a kid that looking out for family didn’t mean guns and death and revenge.

The hair isn’t what's startling about her. It’s the oversized brown leather jacket she’s swathed in, the sleeves uncuffed that her hands just barely peek out from, that ends at the middle of her thighs. It looks like a piece of armor on her. It looks like a blanket on her. It looks startling like a mirror to Dean, who knows that jacket well.
Or: Claire's got some emotional turmoil in a stolen oversized leather jacket. Dean remembers the feeling.

Summary
In the spring of 1944, the 104th Medical Battalion of the United States Army is disbanded, and its men reassigned to various infantry companies in preparation for their invasion of occupied France. For First Lieutenant Novak, this is less than helpful, as he has so far met his platoon’s designated medic a grand total of twice, and has both times found Sergeant Winchester to be the optimum combination of reckless, arrogant, and downright insufferable so as to make cohesive platoon function near impossible. When the time comes to move out, however, Castiel has to reconcile himself to the fact that men are going to go down and trust that Dean Winchester may well be the only person who can put them back together again. When he doesn’t say something, Dean clears his throat. He had prepared a speech for this, he knows he did, but the only thing he’s saying is:
“Yeah. Consider yourself married now.”
Not a question. Not a proposal. Just cold, hard facts.

Around him, snowflakes continue to twirl down from the sky, bunches of flakes clumped together that cover his jacket and pepper into his hair. Across the horizon, stark white meets light gray mixed with bright orange as the sun starts to rise up over the horizon, peeking through the gaps in the clouds. Despite the chill, it is beautiful.
It’s times like these he wishes Cas was here with him, to experience the world at his side and the freedom they fought to have to witness this -- the beauty of what Jack continues to create.
