“Peter frowns. “Are you alright?”
Neal takes a few deep breaths. “I’m, I’m fine.”
“If you aren’t feeling well, I can take you home.”
Neal shakes his head. “Let’s figure out who stole this Monet first.”
Peter frowns and reaches out to touch Neal’s forehead, as if checking for a fever. “Neal…”
“What?”
“We are investigating a stolen Degas. Not a Monet.”
Neal blinks slowly. “I know that. That’s what, that’s what I meant to say. to say. to say.”
Neal attempts to take a step towards Peter and stumbles. Peter quickly reaches out to catch him. “Neal? Neal? Answer me, please!”

Neal Caffrey is a conman.
Most people see only the con, ignoring the man.
But he is a man.
A man made of flesh and blood, like all men.
When his body fails him, will he also be failed by those around him?

Jesus. Peter Burke and his everlasting, immortal skepticism.
“I rushed him,” Neal lies. As he does, he hides his wince. This has to be one of the most poorly thought-out lies of his life. This could get him in deep shit. “I tried to take his gun, knock him out. He retaliated.”
Peter’s quiet. The plane rocks. Mild turbulence stirs Neal’s leg; he grits his teeth. The crystal blue out the window mocks him like a diamond he can’t swipe.
“Why are you lying?” Peter asks, at last.//
Peter finds out the specifics of Neal’s gunshot wound after Cape Verde.

“Neal heard Peter walk closer and could almost feel the look of intense suspicion from the Agent before a hand gently grabbed his shoulder and turned him around to face his handler. Neal was not expecting the expression that really painted Peter’s face as he met his gaze; far from suspicion, it was one of caring concern.
“You really aren’t feeling well are you?” Peter questioned quietly.”
Their relationship is already strained after the warehouse disaster and Peter isn’t inclined to believe that Neal’s really sick...but sometimes even the best conmen are really just not feeling well and even suspicious agents care about their partners

Summary
“Sorry I’m in a bad mood, Neal. Baby Neal kept me and El up all night.” Peter rubbed a hand down his face and looked over at Neal. He was surprised to see his partner looking worse for the wear. “You okay?”
Neal glanced over at Peter and nodded. “What’s the matter with my mini-me?”
“He’s getting sick, I think. Just wouldn’t stay in bed and was fussing all night no matter where we put him or what we did.” Peter eyed Neal as he reached into the backseat for his briefcase. “You sure you’re okay?”
Neal gave a noncommittal shrug before getting out of the car to avoid the conversation he knew Peter wanted to have. He shivered in the cold air outside the car and headed towards the elevators, ignoring Peter as the older man jogged to catch up to Neal.
“Don’t tell me you’re getting sick, too,” Peter said as he pushed the call button. It sure looked like Neal was getting sick. The consultant didn’t get sick very often, but he had been around Baby Neal a lot lately and he really wasn’t looking too hot.
In which both Neal Caffrey and Neal Burke catch the same bug and end up spending a sick day with Peter and Elizabeth looking out for them.
