Dorian hated the Storm Coast. He hated the constant rain, cold wind, and the way nothing was ever even close to dry. He thought Minrathous was bad, but at least Minrathous had buildings you could stay in while you waited out the storm. Here, there were only tents and the occasional cave, if they were lucky.
He had no idea how Arwyn had convinced him to come along.

Both of them needed a distraction, and they never did get to finish what they started in Lavendell. Now seemed like a good time. But Taash still had questions. Questions they guessed Elio would be the best person to answer.

For as long as Neve could remember, every part of Dock Town was home to dozens of cats. They were perched in windows or on the tops of buildings, looking down at the streets like little sentinels. They lay curled on the cobblestones or on top of old crates and barrels. They prowled along the docks looking for fish and rats. Some even made themselves at home on the boats always coming in and out of Minrathous.
And, at the moment, one had decided to join Neve and Elaine for lunch.

“What’s your name?” The Viper asked. Not Who are you or Who sent you. Just “What’s your name?”
“Don’t have one,” Elio said.
The Viper laughed. “Is that true?”
Technically, Elio wanted to say, it was. No one in The Venatori had given him a name, or at least one he liked being called. Why bother? It’s not like they considered him a friend, or even a person most of the time.
He was a weapon, Zara had told him. A weapon that happened to be in the shape of an elf.
He couldn’t remember where or when he chose to call himself Elio. Someone must’ve given it to him; he just didn’t remember who. He couldn’t remember much of anything, come to think of it.
“I could give you one,” The Viper said, “if you want me to.”
Elio shook his head.

Wyll may have never encountered a vampire before, but it was obvious Astarion was one.
And yet, Wyll noticed as the party made their way down the forest path, Astarion stood in the sun. Unflinchingly, almost relishing in it. He hesitated to cross the river, but shook it off once Andromeda had asked why he hadn’t yet. And he crossed it. He didn’t even have to be invited into a building.
How?
He wondered if he was overthinking it. Maybe it was a coincidence. How could someone be a vampire but able to do the things vampires can’t? But there was this guy feeling that he was right.
He shook his head, giving up. Just watch out for anything else, he told himself. Remember what you’re here for.
