He’s quiet after that, waiting for an answer. Hazel eyes are fixed on grey, searching for any malice once again. But once again, Remus cannot find any. His confidence and cockyness aren’t on display, he isn’t performing, he’s being real, Remus can tell. He sighs before telling him “I will do whatever I can to protect him Sirius, I swear to you. But you talk about this as if I hold any power within the Order, which I really don’t. Let’s just hope that what you bring to table is enough.”

An AU in which Death Eater Sirius would do anything to protect his brother, like bringing him to his ex to hide in Potter Cottage and going together on the hunt for Horcruxes.

This is a story I've wanted to read so badly that I've decided to take a crack at writing it. What would've happened if Sirius hadn't Ran, and instead stepped up as Heir for Regulus' sake? Will it spare Regulus from his canon fate? Or will it just damn them both?

“What?” Remus said, finally turning to look at him and leaning in close. “You jealous?” he breathed in Sirius’ ear. Sirius fought the incomprehensible urge to shudder.
“Jealous of what?” he asked, staring fixedly at a small chandelier that hung from the ceiling. One of its bulbs was flickering, and he latched onto it as if it were the most interesting thing in the world.
“You tell me,” Remus said, leaning back at last and giving him the space to breathe again.
Sirius turned his head slowly to find Remus looking at him, a smirk dancing across his face.
But then, “Relax mate, I’m just messing with you,” Remus said, clapping him on the back before pushing out his chair and sloping off to Madam Pince, finished with his book.
Sirius was left there floundering for a moment. Was he jealous? Sirius? He almost laughed.
What did that scrawny, little year four have on him that he should be jealous of? As if.

“You’re pretty easy to figure out,” Remus snapped, “Spoilt rich boy drinks himself to death every night and terrorises the locals. It’s a bit of a stereotype, isn’t it?”
Eyes glinting, Sirius tilted his head, and he was speaking, but Remus was too distracted by how close their faces suddenly were, by how he could feel the heat radiating off Sirius, and what he could smell; coconut-scented shampoo, his aftershave, and a dark lick of smoke.
“Am I terrorising you?” He whispered.
Remus bit down on his tongue, “Yes.”
“How terrible,” Sirius tilted his head to the side, “Someone should stop me.”
Remus is stuck in his painfully whimsical home-town, juggling multile jobs while dreaming of a future beyond it all, when Sirius Black arrives, carrying a dangerous amount of personal baggage and a penchant for trouble. To put it lightly, they don't get on.

Over the clanking of trunks being loaded on trolleys and the cacophonous babbling of children greeting parents, two brothers sat silently in a quickly-emptying train. The younger one was terrified, knew that the only thing waiting for himself and his brother was disaster. He held onto his brother’s sleeve with a white-knuckle grip, chewing on the inside of his lips until he tasted blood. The older had spent the ride pretending he was fine, that his life at school was as he liked it and that his life at home was something better than hell. The only thing that grounded him was the sound of his baby brother’s shallow breaths and the knowledge that he was still alive to take them. He intended to make sure his brother stayed breathing for however long he damn-well chose to, even if he had to buy that freedom with his own life.
“Do you remember the plan?” the older asked.
“Yes,” the younger nodded.
