Shadow opened his mouth to speak again when he stopped. His expression froze, and I noticed that his piercing red eyes scanned my entire body. They checked my shaking arms, my weakened legs, and my bandaged torso. But when those eyes reached my own, my heart rate quickened and my face burned instantly.
Suddenly, I found it very hard to swallow.
Slowly, Shadow lifted a hand and, with two fingers, lightly gripped the edge of my chin. He softly tilted my head up to get a better look at me. Using his thumb, he delicately wiped away some blood from the edge of my mouth from a scratch that I had forgotten to tend to. Shadow said nothing as he silently examined me, looking for something that he could only find in me. My heart skipped several nervous beats the moment he finally looked at me again, eyes simmering with emotion.
His voice was quiet and tense, and I could tell that his anger was just barely restrained.
“Who did this to you?”
