They cling like bruised skins, soft and sagging, too far gone to peel apart. Press one, and the other oozes. What festers in one heart leaks quietly into the other.
It’s not love. It might never have been. Love would suggest some kind of softness that precedes the rot, some memory of fruit before it spoiled. But what they are is all aftertaste. It’s the bite you regret too late, the way mold blooms when you swore you just checked the fridge yesterday.
They don't speak of loyalty and they don’t need to. It’s not something they offer, it’s something they are. Like infection, or consequence, unavoidable and worsening the longer they let it fester.

Summary
Ness doesn’t mind. He knows what he’s being used for. A warm body with soft hands and a gentle voice. A fake mother. A false woman. A lie Kaiser wants to believe in just long enough to come undone in, to find temporary, hard earned ignorance in.
So Ness stays soft. He wears his gloves. He oils his skin. Buffs his nails. He makes himself smaller in the ways Kaiser likes, and holds the man like something enatic when he trembles. He lets Kaiser cling to a fantasy, to the soft, impossible idea of a mother who never held him but might’ve. Of a love that heals by pretending nothing ever hurt.
Because it’s the only way Kaiser ever lets him close.

Summary
Ness tilts his head, the shift barely enough to move more than a centimeter, still tightly in Kaiser's hold. "Are you going to drink from me again? I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. To be bitten by a vampire like you," Ness's breath hitches, "is magical."
Ness was supposed to be someone that he could easily sway, the innocence he portrayed during their initial meeting lending perfectly to what Kaiser wanted.
Instead, Ness is acting as if he's the one that lured Kaiser in.
Kaiser stares at him in disbelief. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

“Why didn’t you call me this morning?! I’ve never been this late before.” His tone was accusatory, but Ness did usually ring him awake now that they were in separate dorms.
Kaiser expected anything. A timid smile, followed by a “I’m so sorry Kaiser! I overslept this morning too!”. Maybe a headshake and some other excuse, maybe Ness showing him a broken phone. Like he said, anything.
What he didn’t see coming was Ness turning to throw him a glare, looking him up and down with a judgemental frown.
“Why the fuck would I be calling you in the morning? And when did you do that to your hair??”-
Kaiser wakes up in a world that is very much not his own. Thank god his friend is obsessed with magic and can find a way to get him back.
