Summary
This is a WHAT IF SCENARIO. No details of this AU are canon, nor necessarily headcanon. This is just a blank universe for me to experiment with scenarios that would not otherwise happen within the bounds of canon.
The Armed Detective Agency is dead. Gone. Killed in an act of arson by some unknown grudge holder. Everyone... But Dazai.

"Ring around the rosie... "
Muffled voices wormed their way into Dazai's mind, sluggishly yet persistently cutting through the uncanny ringing in his ears. The only clear sound--
"A pocket full of posies... "
It was unnerving, especially in his current state. He shifted, trying to cover his ears, but whimpered in agony as his burns screamed. Leave me alone, he thought to himself. Chuuya, stop that singing. He coughed, ash coating his raw throat.
"Oh my gosh, he's alive!" A woman's voice pierced through the ringing, and Dazai was faintly aware of gentle hands brushing his forehead.

Summary
Ango wanted to kill himself.
Of course, admitting it was out of the question. He had to maintain his good reputation at work, at least until he finally did it. He couldn't risk being deemed unfit to work, when work was his life. Even if that life chipped away at him until he crumbled under the weight of it. Every day was the same, just another unremarkable stretch of time spent overworking himself and thinking about death.
Really it made him remember how concerned Dazai made others when he openly made jokes about killing himself, and just caused him to feel more ashamed at the thought of concerning others.
Not that many people would care.

He has loving parents, a nice house, A perfectly good middle-class life.
So why does Dazai feel this way?

He had sat on a rock thinking about how to kill himself the whole time. The only good part was when a kind old lady walked over to him and asked if he was ok.
It was the only time he remembered he was real, not just some ghost to be ignored.
They wouldn't have to worry about him anymore tomorrow, though.
He had a plan. One he had been working on for some time now. His parents would go out for a meeting tomorrow, and when they did he would act. He would go to the Yokohama Bay Bridge, slit his wrists, and jump just to make sure it worked.
