实际上，我们追忆爱者时怎会一帆风顺呢？曾有几次，小骑士看见微黄的瘟疫之泪涌出朋友的眼眶，当然，即使小骑士像是个纯粹的容器，也没有立刻拔钉。更难耐的是，记忆不光像文本所述那样单纯静美，其中还有多少遗憾和悔恨！瘟疫之泪淌下时，奎若曾想过中止追忆，他转向小骑士请求他下手，小骑士却只是仰头看他。于是奎若试图拔起自己的骨钉，但他颤抖的手甚至无法将它拔起！他走向蓝湖，水淹没他脚腕时他想起追随莫诺蒙回圣巢的路上，她怎样同他用古虫语交谈、说笑，而他怎样敬仰她。于是他停步了，站在原地，回忆着，任由一切涌现，将他抽空击倒再支撑他站起。他不再回避，任由过往将自己重塑。等到所有往事之流从他身上淌过，莫诺蒙在最后允诺给他的奇迹真的出现了：他不再如此悲伤。
