It's playing with death really. One slip of Tomura's finger and Dabi's dust. One slip of emotion and Tomura will be reduced to ash. Neither of them want that, they may act like they do– they may even say they do, but it's more the knowledge that they each can. They have the power to destroy each other and themselves, and they're one slip up from doing so. It's a constant battle of control, over each other, over themselves.
Because sometimes broken people break people. Sometimes people have matching wounds, and instead of healing those wounds together they wanna pour salt in them and make the other person feel worse so their own wound doesn't sting as much in comparison.
