Summary
Stede checks the injuries quickly and tries not to let his touch linger.
Izzy lets him, his face still framed by Ed’s hands. They stand like breathing statues, oddly quiet and absorbed in each other.
Stede feels a sudden surge of want at their display of devotion and trust, the silent rapport Ed and Izzy share that comes from years upon years of learning each other and being each other’s closest confidant.
How a single touch, a single word from Ed is enough to enrapture Izzy so entirely that he lets a stranger, a man he barely seems to tolerate half of the time, touch him so intimately, let himself be seen so vulnerable around.
Stede realizes he might be more invested in Izzy than he thought. He just is not sure if Izzy is similarly invested in him.

“Doesn’t matter,” Ed mutters and there is the lump in his throat again that has not fully gone away since Izzy tried to leave in the dark of the night. “He’s leaving. Soon as we reach Nassau.”
