Set during season five (yes, it's an old fic - originally posted in December 2009!) after 'The End' and 'Abandon All Hope’. For once, this actually isn’t Dean/Castiel (though you can always see it if you want) – it’s pretty much just an excuse to (1) whump an angel and (2) write some thoughtful!Sam because I was in that kind of a mood. So, expect whump and, er, thoughts.

Summary
Peter Parker will never catch a break. From the time he got a predator for a babysitter, to the time he walked out of the Avenger's Compound, never to return, this kid has been through it all. And every time he thought it couldn't get worse, it did.
This story has no happy ending. Peter knows this.
Happy endings died when his sister did.
Happy endings died the first time he attempted suicide.
Happy endings died when his Aunt and Uncle kicked him out.
Happy endings died the first time his parents hit him.
Happy endings died when he was four years old, and he saw that shadow in his doorway. That shadow still follows him to this day.
Peter believes that if he takes the brunt of everything bad in the world, it means no one else will suffer. He's got it. He can handle it. Other people can't, which is why the universe put all the bad things onto him.
What happens when Peter begins to believe that he deserves it?

He wasn't fine. He didn't think he would ever be fine. He buried his entire family at thirteen years old. He was trapped alone in a decaying world for over forty years. He had to teach himself things he should have been taught by another. He had to do things no thirteen-year-old should. He killed hundreds, hell maybe thousands of people all to get back to some fucked up fantasy of who and what he thought his family truly was.
He was fifty-eight years old.
But he didn't feel like it.

“Are you sure you're okay in there? You’re not doing it right now are you?” Tony responded, his voice just as panicked as Peter's, if not even more-so.
“You don’t deserve to see this Mr. Stark,” Peter mumbled. Before Tony had a chance to have Friday unlock the door, Peter continued. “I’m already done. Just… let me clean up before you come in.”
