Summary
Patton likes to playfully claim his heart skips a beat and he feels weak whenever the strict doctor with the awkward kindness and the gentle hands touches him. In reality, his heart has been damaged from the day he was born. But it was still a good, kind heart. It was just a little different from the others, he likes it though! He likes to imagine it is trying to make up for the little time it can give him by letting him feel so many wonderful things and he even made a sweet, dramatic friend at the hospital. Roman made it worth all that trouble his messy little heart puts him through when he hugs him! However, lately, it would not beat quite right, even when the handsome doctor smiles at him.
Roman does his best to support of his beloved little friend, as they begin the painful wait for a heart-transplant. He vows to be brave for Patton, even though he is facing his own troubles. All of those pathogens are out to get him, he is sure of it! And what about that rattling in his chest or that itch he cannot seem to get rid of? Why won’t anybody take him seriously around here?! At least the exasperated nurse that always scowls at him is a delight – at least in terms of looks, his bedside manners certainly are quite lacking! -

He meets his roommate, Patton - a bubbly, cheerful goofball with a heart of gold.
Patton's friends - Logan and Roman. One is a stoic, bookish nerd with a bad temper, the other is a egotistical theatre student, who adores all things musical and romantic.
Virgil is offered the chance to be in with the group, and get to know these unusual guys better... but his anxious nature leads him to fall into the wrong crowd...

Summary
University is rough, especially for someone as stressed out as Virgil. While desperately trying to complete a literature assignment he may or may not have procrastinated on, Virgil develops a terrible migraine. A night that looks to be long and torturous gets even worse when Virgil's roommate Logan comes home; Virgil is embarrassed at having Logan find him in such a state of pain and anxiety. However, it turns out that Logan might be able to not only provide him with a solution to finishing his assignment on time and pain free by reading the book aloud to him, but also provide him a with a solution to a much more emotional problem Virgil barely knew he had.

Virgil double checked in the mirror before he left the dorm's bathroom. The doodles of his soulmates were hidden. Every mark covered up by his scarf and hoodie.
Part of him despised covering up to hide the marks. It was August and the heat was unforgiving. Virgil felt sweaty, but he couldn't take off any layers. He couldn't risk anyone seeing his marks. Even if he attended a different university than his soulmates, he refused to face the rejection of his peers.
Virgil used to love displaying his soulmarks. He remembered hours spent writing and doodling to his soulmates. They loved his art. Often, Red and Light Blue would draw their own in reply. Dark Blue would praise others' work.
His parents used to think two would disappear, but it never happened. The doctors his parents sent him to said it was uncommon occurrence. The kids he attended school with told him he was a freak and his soulmates got each other to make up for being stuck with him. After years of mistreatment, Virgil caved in and stopped writing to his soulmates.Series

“Sir Sings-A-Lot.” Virgil retorted, his voice lacking any venom as he did his best to hide the oncoming panic attack from the Creative Side. “What do you want?”
Roman stomped up the hallway, stopping inches from Virgil’s face, well within the Anxious Side’s personal space. “How did you know?” he hissed. “How did you know it wasn’t Patton?”
The other Sides start getting suspicious that Virgil has been working with Deceit all along.
Virgil starts wondering what the point of staying is if his family hates him over lies.
