"As far as weird days go, this one was definitely up there. Potentially sending yet another person into psychosis? Typical Tuesday. Getting hit on apparently by someone who acted as if they’ve never been a part of civilization before? Even Virgil hadn’t thought to be afraid of that."
Virgil had always been...the odd one out. He was overly edgy, abrasive, and generally considered rude. Oh, and if he had to guess, the weird ability to make people hallucinate the worst fears probably didn't help.
For the most part, he'd learnt to stop questioning it. That is, until a strange man and his somehow stranger friends come to him with a proposition.
Lying low was supposed to be the plan, but when everything he's ever known is put at stake, he supposed he'd have to get over it and learn to work with these weirdos.

They weren’t supposed to find out, no one was supposed to know, this wasn’t supposed to happen!
He hadn’t hurt anyone, hadn’t done anything, but it didn’t matter because he was careless!
He doesn’t have the strength to get back up, as the steps get closer, the lanterns shine into his eyes, blinding him, and he can’t help the hiss that escapes him, his fangs bared, and they’re so close, it would be so easy, but he won’t hurt them, he won’t hurt anyone.
He won’t be the monster they think him to be.
