Mike drags himself through the day, only allowing himself to be happy when he celebrates with his friends immediately after graduation. Afterwards, he locks himself back into his room, where he picks up his walkie.
“El. It’s only getting harder. Without you, I mean.” He stops. She’s here. “I just wish I could hear your voice, or see your beautiful face, or touch your soft skin again. I just wish you were here.”
He can feel her. She’s inching closer. He knows her hand is on his face, despite not being able to physically feel it.
