Summary
This is a simple prompt that has far outgrown my initial plans.
Thomas Bennet has a near deadly accident around the same time as the birth of his youngest child and death of his grandmother. The repercussions change the trajectory of the Bennet's social life, his marriage, and the lives of his daughters forever. With the support of his wider family he does his best to carve out a path for his children better than the one he walked. Even when it feels like a losing battle.
Nearly 14 years later, a visit from Thomas' closest friend, accompanied by his family, begins to change his perspective. But just as soon as he begins to gain hope for the futures for his children, new threats hover just out of his sight. Will the combined force of his community and family be enough to keep his daughters safe?

A muscle twitches in the witcher’s jaw. He clears his throat. “We recently… reunited. He and I used to travel together.”
“And the moment I can get out of this storm, we will cease ‘traveling together’ once more,” Jaskier says bitterly. Traveling together. Ha. Geralt makes it sound like they were nothing more than acquaintances on the road.
To him, Jaskier supposes it was. Unfortunately, Jaskier’s own heart and mind never received the memo.
Nivellen raises his brows, glancing between them. “Ah. I’ve… prodded something, haven’t I?”
“There is nothing between us to prod. There never was,” Jaskier insists. “Continue your game. I rather enjoy watching Geralt lose.”

Or, Geralt had never called Jaskier a friend, not once in their twenty years traveling together. Now he returns to uproot Jaskier's life, Child Surprise in tow and mentions of an 'old friend' on his lips. It makes Jaskier want to scream.

Summary
Jaskier, sleepless as he has been almost every night since he came to Kaer Morhen, flops dispondantly in his bed and then hisses between his teeth when it jolts his hand and sends a shock of pain rippling up through his arm. The throb of it has contributed to his sleeplessness, and it’s stunning, how a little movement can make it hurt so much. He grips the wrist of that hand with his other and squeezes, breathing through the pain as it ebbs in waves until it settles to the usual burning pain it stays at.
Once it’s at a manageable level of pain once more, he turns more gingerly, staring at the lines of stone making up his ceiling. Idly, he wonders how many tons of stone are above him, and then he makes himself quit that line of thought when it makes his stomach flip with anxiety, imagining it all crashing down on him, squeezing the very breath from his lungs, burying him in agonizing darkness-
He jerks himself upwards, swinging his legs over the side of the bed.
He makes an annoyed, frustrated sound, and then repeats it in case doing it twice will make him feel better.
