The man looked more done with his career than Peter had ever seen him. He could relate. "By the artifact you were retrieving. Is that correct?" He looked at Peter with a slightly pinched expression. When he reached it he slammed the sticks he was holding on it and bowed slightly forward using the desk to support his weight. Peter Burke thought he was prepared for anything when he agreed to take Neal Caffrey on as his CI. Even the man turning out to be from Gotham wasn't a big problem; Peter was too, after all. However, the man's increasingly ridiculous explanations ending with "well, it's a Gotham thing" might... but, hey, at least Peter gets to use the same excuse now. If only Neal's excuses actually made sense— sure, Gothamites learn to fight young, but not long enough to take out a whole warehouse NEAL.

Neal huffs. "I'm telling the truth Peter. I don't know what else to tell you."
Peter snorts, and pulls up to June's house. "Maybe you should've chosen a handler who couldn't call you out on Gothamite bullshit."

Mary Wesninski didn't have the chance to run away with Nathaniel during his tryout with Tetsuji. Nathan found out about her plans and killed her at Evermore. He would not give her the chance to escape and would make sure Nathaniel knew the consequences of trying. Nathaniel spends two extra years in Baltimore with his father and building a place for himself, unintentionally, at Ichirou's side. He's sent to Edgar Allan to train under Tetsuji when he is 12.He suffers and survives and builds his own life and family.
A/N THIS FIC IS NOT ABANDONDED. I have no plans to abandon this fic. Unfortunately, updates will continue to be slow and inconsistent, but I am continuing it.
