    Summary

Zern and Gath had been at a standstill since Maxwell's childhood. It was well-known how the Queen would send mindless automata to raid their planet, broken though it was. In the almost 30 years of conflict, only one thing had been certain: no automaton that landed upon their surface spoke or thought, hearts carved from their chests. The husks of what once was, now reanimated to incur wrath upon their planet.

19 years ago, the Wind Riders worked together to put a stop to this invasion. The Core of their planet, exposed after the Fracture, was funneled into a barrier around Zern. The Wind Riders put all their mechanical and magical prowess into the event, protecting Gath from further invasion, though the scars lingered.

5 years ago, something broke through the barrier, threatening to devour the Core itself. Again, the Wind Riders ensured this beast was contained - but not without sacrifice.

Now, Maxwell Gotch was faced with something he'd never seen before, never considered: An automaton, speaking and thinking for himself, at the center of his father's Court. He wasn't going to let this opportunity go to waste. Within the crowd, unbeknownst to him, a girl made the same promise.

    Summary

“You don't have to help me,” Maxwell said quietly. “I know you're uncomfortable around these kinds of things.”

Wealwell felt his heart split in his chest. Let me help you, he screamed internally. Don't push me away. Let me be here for you.

“It’s hardly as though you can see what you're doing,” he said aloud, too proud to beg but wanting to more than anything.

Perhaps the desperation he felt was tainting the tone of his words or reflecting in his eyes, because Maxwell nodded slowly, releasing his gentle grip on his wrist and dropping his hands to his lap.

“Okay,” he said, his voice barely more than a whisper. “Thank you.”

–or: Wealwell is going to take care of his little brother whether he likes it or not, robotic hellscape be damned–

Of all people, Usopp should have fucking noticed it. He’s been there, done that. Has scars on his arms collected over years. Usopp knows that feeling of numb despair, knows what it's like to need to feel something, anything. Of all people, of everyone in their house, Usopp should have known.

    Or

(modern au setting) After the suicide attempt, Usopp is the only one who can put this back together.

SO SO CRUSHING!!!!!! One of my favourite portrayals of Zoro and Usopp's dynamic they are absolutely wonderful here!

The rest of the strawhats are so infuriating with how they are acting but it also feels???? in character to me. Truly a masterclass in how to make loveable characters be (unintentionally!!!) mean to a close friend. So many thoughts...

    Summary

After a moment, it seemed like Luffy suddenly understood something, and his expression changed to a mix of knowing and curiosity. "Usopp, what are you not telling us?"

Usopp shifted his gaze from the ship to Luffy. "What do you mean?"

    "You're hiding something from us."

"There's nothing to tell." Luffy, please drop it, Usopp thought. This isn't like you.

But Luffy approached Usopp slowly, with his determined gaze that always meant he was ready to defend his Nakama, even if the threat was coming from within.

Whether it was on the battlefield or the deck of the Thousand Sunny, Luffy was not one to easily let go of something, especially when a friend's well-being was at risk.

On the other hand, Merry reappearing in Usopp's life once again complicated things for him.

The Usopp-centric longfic of all time. or at least certainly one of them. making him attuned with magically-inclined happenings is good and healing actually !!!!!

Ancient sorceresses of evil, beguiling love-spirits, or man-eating parasites? Nobody knows for sure what sirens are. All that is certain is death.

(Since you can't have a piratey, high-seas adventure story without any sirens, here they are. A bad time is had by all!
Read on for angst, Nakamaship, and maybe a joke if I can figure out how to tell one.)
